Description

The Greens at Tanyard is a Virginia daily-fee course with a welcoming, community-forward atmosphere and a layout designed for accessible, repeatable golf. The course typically emphasizes clear shot values and manageable lengths, rewarding steady ball-striking and smart targets. It’s often scoreable when you stay in play, but it can punish impatience if you chase risky lines or short-side yourself around greens. The vibe tends to be relaxed, making it a solid choice for casual groups and leagues. Overall, Tanyard delivers dependable local golf—straightforward, enjoyable, and easy to revisit.

Solid 3 star course. Greens are nicer than some other local courses as of September 2025. If you're willing to spend extra (18: $60/weekday or $70/weekend // 9: $45/weekday or $50/weekend (as of 10/22/25)) to have a quieter golf experience with less golfers around, then that's a solid choice. Other courses in better shape with amenities are approximately $40 during the week for 18. There are no food services at the course. I would play here more often if the prices were more economical but instead play about once a month here and play one to two times every week at other nearby courses. Bunkers need work. Signs need cleaning. Greens are challenging during the fall as they do not have fans set up nearby to run every now and then. Nice for a course to just show up and know you can get a round in that is low-key. As a newer golfer, not having people behind you constantly is enjoyable. Closures at unexpected times or not being noted on the website should be considered. Calling before each time you go is a good idea but a shame to have to do.

Just played there today. Photos in the review were from today (Mid-November 2024) The club is a mom and pop shop so it's very low key. The greens were in amazing shape especially in November. The front desk owner, Lisa, was very nice and personable. Allowed us to play 9 and let us decide if we wanted to play the back 9 if time allowed. Green fee was a bargain at $65 for 18 holes and a cart. ($45 for 9). I found this super reasonable considering other courses in the area are $169. Cart path is rough at places. So? You're in a cart. The gravel isn't going to hurt you and we're able to get to the next hole. Definitely going back!

I had the great pleasure of meeting the husband/wife owners, Tim & Lisa, of this course. I met Tim for the first time, and it was like I've known him for decades. Super personable and sharing. The greens were in GREAT condition, I put them up against the best courses. Good pace of play. The $70 fee is very fair for a Sunday round. The cart paths are gravel; so what! Nice mix of straight, tight, dogleg, and placement holes. Only thing it's missing is food/concessions. Highly recommended for no frills golf. I'll be back. Thanks Tim! God bless you and the family.

It’s 2:45 on a beautiful, sunny 47° Sunday, so I make the 20 minute drive to hit a few balls on the range, and am greeted with this gate. Seriously? If you’re going to close, it’s very easy to update the hours of operation on Google. I’ve not heard good things about this course, but decided to check it out. Well, I checked it out…

First off, the course condition is shit. You can tell they don’t put any time or effort into maintaining anything. Carts were full of trash and almost out of gas. The owner, Tim, is the rudest, most entitled person I’ve ever met. There are a lot nicer golf courses for $70. I wouldn’t waste my time or money going here.
