Spotswood is a classic Virginia private club name, typically offering traditional parkland golf with a member-first atmosphere and a course designed for repeat play. Layouts like this tend to emphasize accuracy, smart angles, and greens that reward familiarity—local knowledge matters as much as any single heroic shot. The club culture is often central, with events, leagues, and a steady competitive calendar shaping the golf experience. It’s a course where you score best by staying disciplined—keep it in play, hit greens, avoid short-sided misses. Overall, Spotswood fits the mold of a comfortable, community-driven private club with steady, traditional golf character.

Spotswood is one of the best golf courses located in the southern Shenandoah Valley. The course is relatively hilly and features small undulating greens making it a challenging layout. The staff were very polite and courteous and made me feel welcome during my round. The course is private but is a must play if you can find a way on.

We were members for several years but quit when we had children. There were several snobs who looked down on us for bringing our children to the club. Especially an older couple who held court in the dining room with their own, private table in the front of the dining room. It was pathetic watching people come in and grovel/pay homage to this couple who had to be in the 80s. It was a very dysfunctional, anti-family environment so we quit.

My husband's family has been eating there during the holidays for generations. The new management really ramped up the food for Thanksgiving. It was by far the best we have had in many years. I hope they keep it up. It was wonderful.
