Fincastle is a smaller-town Virginia course with a classic local feel—friendly, straightforward, and built for the community more than for destination travel. The layout typically emphasizes keeping the ball in play and controlling approach distances, with scoring chances that come from smart targets rather than hero shots. It’s the kind of course where pace is usually manageable and the atmosphere is welcoming to all skill levels. Seasonal conditions and local terrain often add personality—rolling lies, a few quirky holes, and greens that become familiar with repeat rounds. Overall, it’s dependable “small-town golf” that’s fun to play and easy to return to.

Have been playing this course for about 3 yrs now. I absolutely love the course and the fact it gives me quality time with my dad is priceless, i give the course a 5 but i give it a 1 because of the fact that almost every time we play the staff in the pro shop are just plain out rude and have the personality of a golf ball. There is never a hi how you doing or any convo other than basically what do you want and if you call for a tee time it’s the same, what do you want and then just hang up. If you are that miserable find another job, people are trying to escape the BS and get out and enjoy being away from every day hassle and for me and a lot of others quality time with family they can’t get while working or whatever else is going on. How hard is it to make someone feel welcome and happy to be at your establishment.

What a wonderful experience. Great staff. Good food and a dynamite golf course all for just $45/$55 weekdays/ends. This is a former private course turned muni when the city saved it. Great team running it now and bright future. Stop by and see them!

Fincastle on the Mountain is one of the best municipal golf courses I’ve ever played. The course has amazing mountain views and is a blast to play. The course features small undulating greens, narrow hilly fairways, and beautiful white sand bunkers making it a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The staff and golfers were extremely courteous and friendly and made for an enjoyable round. This is the best golf course in the coalfields region of Virginia and is a must play if in the area.

We are currently playing ( or trying to) and the starter woman decided to pair us with a couple of kids that are walking. We have a cart. Makes zero sense. Not the kids fault but it’s making the pace of play insanely slow. Never seen anything like that. ** see the response to this review and you can easily see the type of experience you’ll have. Pairing is fine but pairing two walking with two riding is nuts. Period. But the response is pay for all spots then!! 😂 laughable. Cost wasn’t the issue common sense was.
