I've played South Mountain Golf Course several times this year, and the improvement compared to the last five years is remarkable. I play golf a few times a week at courses throughout Utah and have played courses all over the United States. I'm not a scratch golfer, but I play to a single-digit handicap, so I have a pretty good feel for course conditions and management. Considering the challenges this year—very little winter moisture and ongoing water restrictions—the staff has done an outstanding job. The course is understandably dry in places, but honestly, what course in Utah isn't right now? What stands out is how well they've prioritized the playing surfaces. The greens are in excellent condition, the tee boxes are some of the best I've seen here in years, and the overall presentation continues to improve every time I play. The biggest difference, however, is the management. The new head golf professional and the course superintendent have made tremendous strides in a very short period of time. You can tell there is a clear vision, attention to detail, and pride in bringing this course back to where it belongs. I remember how special South Mountain was before the county purchased it, and for the first time in a long time, I believe it's headed back to that level. If they continue on this path over the next 18 months, I think golfers are going to be pleasantly surprised by what this course becomes. Credit where credit is due. The team at South Mountain deserves recognition for the progress they've made under difficult circumstances. I'm looking forward to watching the course continue to improve. And in perusing the past Google reviews, it is interesting how so many people say South Mountain is awful. Maybe they are just awful golfers who lost a few precious golf balls. IMO, it as made me a better player by playing there. If they want to see bad, go to Millsite in Ferron. That place should not be charging $ and should close it down! PS... We are in a drought! Join a country club if you want 'free' water and perfect fairways!

The green fee is $62 for 18 and a cart. The condition of the course is very poor and does not justify that price. The fairways don’t reward golfers for good drives as they are very patchy with several dead spots and divots, the greens are diseased and inconsistent. They say it’s because of not enough water but that’s not the only problem plaguing the course. The fairways are also extremely hilly and often times you need to club down to get over a hill since you’re likely to find yourself in a valley between hills. For the price and condition it’s not worth picking this course over any other course in the salt lake valley

I’m only giving this place two stars because of the beautiful views — that’s really the highlight here. Unfortunately, the course itself is in poor condition and clearly not well maintained. The fairways and greens need serious attention, and overall it feels like the grounds management just isn’t keeping up with the potential this course has. It’s disappointing because the layout and scenery are fantastic, and with proper care this could easily be one of the top courses around. I did enjoy my time golfing thanks to the company and the setting, but I won’t be back until there are noticeable improvements to course maintenance and overall upkeep. Update.. My brother just golfed this course yesterday and said don’t waste your money on this place.

A friend and I had a seriously great time playing here yesterday. Staff was able to work us in on a fully booked day and pace of play was on point for a challenging course with a stacked tee sheet. Conditions were not pristine, but I found it very fair and fun still. Putts rolled true. The views of course are stunning as well. Hopefully some rain and this course will pop even more!

Not sure how a county owned course can be in this bad of shape. Do they spend any money at all on it? So much potential with the views of the valley. Always has tee times but for good reason, it’s in worse shape than Mulligans or Toad’s Fun Zone.
