#1 Public course I can recommend. I don’t play the same course twice 98% of the time because I like to see them all. Not many places I haven’t played in North or South Central Texas. Vaaler is just special. If you like championship style golf courses where you don’t have to worry about pace of play, while also only being able to see one hole at a time - this is a great spot to check out. Price wise it’s on the higher end but the course makes it worth it. Perfect course maintenance, modern carts, a friendly starter, and overall beautiful hill country background. Have fun with the beach-sized bunkers and monster play from the tips. Have to recommend 18 here if you have the chance.

First time playing Vaaler Creek, 7/10/26. This is a beautiful layout with very good fairways and tees. The greens however are terrible. They are heavily sanded, sparse, bumpy and nearly unputtable.

This has been on my list for awhile and finally made the trip. Course was in incredible shape and the staff was super helpful and friendly. Layout is a mix of fun, challenging, rewarding, and forgiving in some areas too. Definitely worth the drive!

We had one of those rounds you don’t forget. After getting turned away from another course (despite booked tee times), we were scrambling late in the day with little hope left. We made the drive out to Vaaler Creek Golf Club around 4:30 with no reservation, just hoping for a chance to play. From the moment we pulled in, the place felt special—beautiful pond, stone clubhouse, just a calm, scenic vibe. Then we met Tom. I mentioned we’d be back before sundown since we were trying to squeeze in 18 so late. He just kind of smiled and said something along the lines of, “as long as you’ve got light, go play as much as you can.” No pressure, no rush—just genuine encouragement. My girlfriend was playing her first-ever 18, and instead of upselling or making it intimidating, he kept it simple—when we grabbed a box of balls, he just tapped it and said, “these will do just fine.” When we mentioned it was her first full round, he looked at her and said, “you know what that means? Take your time, relax, and make sure to have fun.” That alone would’ve made the day—but as we were heading out, he handed her a voucher for a course closer to home and said, “I’m giving this to her because I want her to fall in love with golf.” That stuck. The course itself was just as impressive—wide, forgiving fairways with enough challenge to stay interesting, and greens in great shape even after rain. Cart path only didn’t slow things down much, and every hole felt thoughtfully laid out and well maintained. We played until the sun disappeared on us. By the time we got back, it was completely dark and the staff had clearly waited on us to return—and still treated us with nothing but kindness. You can tell this place cares about the experience, not just the tee sheet. We’ll absolutely be back.
