Description

Shelby, Nashville's oldest municipal course, offers charming, walkable golf through tree-lined fairways. The routing is traditional—simple, honest, and enjoyable for all skill levels. Small greens and gentle doglegs require a thinking approach. It's affordable, friendly, and steeped in local history. A pure example of old-school muni golf done right.

Played 18 holes on 7-6-25. A very fun layout on about 14/18 holes (the other 4 are kinda just off the teebox going straight uphill that I personally don’t enjoy, but if it was easy it wouldn’t be golf) The new greens roll better or similar to what you’ll get for the same price anywhere close by. They’ve made a lot of the greens very angulating so get ready to lag putt and pray. A few blind shots over hills, but that’s the designed challenge on a shorter course like such.(and you can just drive up 50yards to see where the green is) Fairways are in nice shape, didn’t have a problem with any dead spots like most of these other courses in the area. Didn’t encounter many workers but the lady at the front desk was nice imop. Overall would highly recommend playing atleast once this season. Only downside is short staffed so no carts after 12:30 if you want to play 18, and personally you couldn’t pay me to walk up those hills.

Shelby Bottoms is great value for money. They offer cart and club rentals with 9 or 18 hole options. The clubhouse has a simple snack bar - drinks, beer, hot dogs, etc. - and the essentials - balls, tees, gloves, etc. The course itself is fairly simple. My son and I played the front nine and most of the holes were straight on, maybe a slight dog-leg left or right. There are no particular hazards to speak of. No sand traps. No lakes or ponds. Just trees and brush. There are significant dips and inclines in the terrain which can make riding in the cart feel like a roller coaster ride. My only concern was that many of the holes were next to each other going the opposite direction. Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open.

This place is closed for golfing after damage from the Tornado, but it is open to the public as a park. I love it so much here and I hope it never opens for golfing again so I can keep having picnics there. Here are pictures I have taken there over the last 7 months. I just love it so much.

Averagely priced public golf courses near Downtown Nashville, right next to Shelby Park. The greens are Bermuda grass and are in playable condition. There are a few better public courses in Nashville though. The hilly terrain adds a lot of character and difficulty to the course. It also makes it very challenging to walkers especially on the first nine holes. It is by and large a decent course for golfers on a budget.

Great local course. Greens are much better now. Hours could be better. Insane to close at 4:30pm during peak season. Can’t hit 18 after 12:30 tee time. Blame staff shortages, whatever. There’s no reason for it. It could make money if someone cared. There’s 20 people a day who end up walking the course for free at 4:30. Obviously there’s a demand.
