Description

Red Rock is often considered South Dakota's top public course, routed through ponderosa forests and red rock outcrops. Farris created a demanding yet fair test: wide corridors narrowed by cross slopes, rugged bunkering, and complex greens. Elevation changes produce spectacular vistas and force thoughtful club selection. Conditioning is excellent, with firm, fast surfaces. The practice facility and event calendar make it a flagship course for the Black Hills.

We are so lucky this is our home course. It is beautiful with amazing care. The staff, especially Sam, is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Golfing in the Black Hills is behind the best.

Wow! What a cool golf course and worth the price. Driving range and golf course had a lot of amazing views with the notable change in terrain. The golf course was in great shape and loved the mix of trees, prairie grass, and ravines. There was plenty of photo ops around the golf course. This is one of the best and most memorable courses in South Dakota.

Visited a few years back, and even though I live nearby, didn't go back. I met with some friends a few weeks ago and they said thing have changed since then. My burger was delicious, cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and a legitimate price for a 1/2 pound burger. I thought I could have been a one-off. Tried it again. Same quality. I also ordered wings. They were juicy and tender. I'm glad they got it figured out. I'll go back to be sure.

Played this beautifully maintained - and most interestingly varied-terrain golf course on October 4th (front 9) and 5th (back 9) of 2022 while on my cross-country golf trip from Washington state to Ohio and back. Staff Bryan, Jason and Natalie were all very friendly and accommodating. The fairways were so lush, great for a "picker" such as myself. Tee boxes and greens were also in fantastic condition. I had heard that this was a difficult course, but I didn't find it to be so, except for a few holes that required accuracy off the tee box (mostly Par 3s and holes with blind landing areas). Scenic value of a course is of high priority for me, and how much a course is developed with houses is key. I didn't find Red Rock overburdened nor crowded by development - most houses were set back into the trees or high above on the bluffs. I found that holes 16, 17 and 18 to be my favorites, tucked back into a quiet valley. Carts were very clean and well-maintained. The pro shop was lacking a good selection of apparel with the Red Rock logo, but being late in the season coupled with supply chain issues, it's to be expected. The restaurant looked nice, but didn't have a chance to try the menu...I will next visit. Overall a fantastic experience...so beautiful...I will return!

Excellent, very challenging target-oriented layout not for the faint of heart. Well maintained with trouble that can be found on every hole. From the opening tee you will get a feel of what's to come throughout the rest of the round. Don't choose tees based on ego or you may find yourself with a much lighter bag by the end of the round. Hilly, sloping (some severely) fairways along with undulating greens that demand precision drives and approaches. If you can group up with any local members you will be well off because of several blind shots/ hidden trouble. Carts are equipped with a full GPS system that includes the new green info technology. There are 4 primary tee options along with hybrid choices. As mentioned the maintenance is excellent with well groomed tees and greens. Parking is somewhat limited but plentiful when I played due to volume of play when I was there. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Expect about a 3 1/2 - 4 hour round due to course difficulty. Players themselves do keep the pace moving along ok. Price with cart was around $105. The value is definitely there in my mind and I highly recommend giving this course a try when in the area. Located only 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, Custer State Park, and other Black Hills attractions so some sightseeing can be had after the round.
