I've never left a negative review on any course, but my most recent experience absolutely changed the way I view Newberry Country Club for the worse. I booked a tee time on GolfNow, not knowing the course was hosting a tournament when I prepaid. When I entered the pro shop, the man at the desk could not have been more disrespectful and unaccommodating towards my group and myself. After being told there was no room for us on the tee sheet, my only concern was getting a refund and hopefully returning to the course at a later date. Before I could even ask about rescheduling, the man at the desk dismissed us out of the pro shop, clearly showing he did not want us there nor cared that we had already spent money to play. I understand the course wasn't at fault for the tee time being on GolfNow, but it certainly wasn't our intention to make a reservation during a tournament, especially when we drove an hour to play a course we really enjoy. Based on reading other reviews, the message is clear: Newberry Country Club does not have a golf course issue; they have a hospitality issue starting with their disrespectful staff. I doubt I will be making the trip out there to give my money to this current staff anytime soon, despite how great of a golf course it is.

The course was in decent shape. Greens were pretty bumpy and didn't roll well at all. The worst part was the attitude of the lady in the snack bar. That's enough to keep me from coming back. If you can't treat your customers any better than that, you don't need customers.

Played here for the first time today. If you like older courses then you will love this layout. The greens are smaller than what you normally find on a modern course and present a real challenge. I look forward to playing here again soon.

Short, narrow fairways make for interesting play that feels more like a walk through rolling fields than a golf course. To be fair, I played on dormant grass trying to land my shots on tiny greens where a rolling punch shot might have been better than a wedge. While it was nice to play a new course and the staff were courteous, I won’t be adding this course to my play again list.
