Rooms were much better than I expected. We stayed on the lake side and had beautiful views. Great trail which had some minimal damage from Helene left. Really loved the archery too.

Tucked away and peaceful, Hickory Knob State Resort Park felt like one of those hidden spots people don’t talk about enough. Secluded, quiet, and right by the water — the kind of place where everything slows down. The red sand against the lake made the scenery feel even prettier and almost surreal in the evening light. Perfect if you want a calm escape, fresh air, and a break from crowded tourist spots.

We enjoyed this state park and camped in our RV on site 19. Use caution on the ringroad to access the site. It was a bit washed out and so we had to be careful the RV tires remained on the high spots to prevent our jacks from dragging. The reward was a fairly secluded spot with views of the water. Nice park for bicycling and hiking. Gourgeous golf course, though it was to be closing for renovations May 2026, so double check if that is what your hoping to do. Shower and toilet facilities were close and clean, though a bit dated. Kayak rentals are available. There are some sites that do not require accessing from the gravel ring road, and if available, those would be my preference. Safe travels!

Resort/Golf area of park is very nice. We did enjoy the restaurant being on site. Check in was quick and staff friendly. The camping area is a BIG disappointment. Needs renovation and putting a little money in for improvements. Roads are rough and camp areas not very nice. If u have a boat , ramp at campground is steep. Best thing I can say about the campground is it’s mostly quiet. Our first visit here and last!

Hickory Knob State Park is a big, beautiful, spacious, clean and well maintained #StatePark, lodge, golf course with plenty to do and see. The park is located in McCormick, SC and sets on the shoreline of Strom Thurmond Lake. A (71,000) acre reservoir. Stayed for a few days and really enjoyed my visit. Could’ve wandered 🚶🏾♀️around the park for a week! There were several big family reunions going on at the lodge, the barn, all over the park — seems to be a place families visit quite frequently for different occasions. Great staff and friendly Rangers. Friendly people all over the park. Just a warm and fuzzy big park. I love that! Folks if you’re looking for a great park to visit/camp; Hickory Knob checks off all the boxes. There’s a restaurant in the Lodge that serves breakfast lunch, dinner and makes the best sweet tea and the staff are awesome. A basketball court, swimming pool, Skeet, Archery, golf, playground, volleyball, hiking trails, game area, fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming, etc. Will definitely circle back around to Hickory Knob— add it to my favs list. There’s a Food Lion grocery store abt (10) miles from the park. Chop, Chop! “The world ‘is’ a beautiful place — if you know where to look.”❤️ Note: Couldn’t find any hiking/biking trails that were open. #SCStateParks🌳 #SCParkPassport #GetOutAndPlay🏃🏽♀️🎣🏊🏽♂️🏌️♂️🚴🏽♂️⛺️🏓🥾 #SupportStateParks #HappyPeople #HappyPlaces❤️
