Description

Located just minutes from downtown Charleston, Shadowmoss is a Russell Breeden design that opened in 1970. The routing flows through mature oaks and pines, with water hazards influencing play on a dozen holes. Fairways are generous, but strategic bunkering and doglegs force players to plan tee shots carefully. Greens are Bermuda and can run firm and quick, adding to the test. Known for strong value and a traditional country club feel, Shadowmoss is a favorite for both members and visiting golfers.

We played this course years ago was well maintained. Played here yesterday course conditions were horrible. Greens were full of disease and missing grass, thatch was growing all over the greens making your ball bounce all over the place. Some of the tee boxes were full of divots and sand hard to find good spots to hit from. Positives carts were well taken care of had nice seats and screens. We have played 40.00 courses much nicer than this one at upper 80s. Would highly recommend another local course. Pace of play horrible took us 5hrs.

I understand the grass goes dormant in winter but most courses charge winter rates for this reason. Full price with greens with weeds all over them is ridiculous. No marshall and pace of play was terrible. Practice putting green had so many weeds it was not even worth trying, it was like putting on hardpan rough. Clubhouse was nice enough, full bar, friendly staff inside. Bev cart was a different story, imagine Roz from Monsters and that was the lady driving the cart. I'm sure this course is nice in season but for winter conditions it is way overpriced, by about 40 dollars. It's beat and overplayed. Can't imagine being a member

People were nice and the course was in OK shape. Pace of play was terrible. I was playing by just myself and it took 3.5 hours. I decided to leave after the 15th hole and discovered why it was taking so long. In front of me was 2 players in the same cart (nice people). In front of them was a foursome with 3 walkers, in front of them were 3 walkers, in front of them was mother foursome with all 4 walking. Not hating on walking the course as long as keeping up pace of play. These people were not keeping pace of play by any means. Course Marshalls were riding around and said noting. Not worth $80

First of all, the area is pretty. The club house was clean and the carts were in good condition. Unfortunately that’s about where the positives end. Before starting our round we made our way to the driving range, which surprisingly you can’t use a driver on. That was very disappointing. The state of the range was in complete shambles. The entire hitting area was a mess of hills and sand and it looks like it hasn’t been properly maintained in over a week. This was definitely not regular wear and tear from a single day or even 2. Once we began our round, I was shocked to learn that tee times are spaced only about 6–8 minutes apart. Even with a full foursome, there’s another group directly in front and behind you, making the pace of play painfully slow. Tee boxes were chewed up, and nearly every green had multiple bare patches and dead spots. I ended up leaving after only playing 4 holes because it was just a miserable experience with all of these factors considered. I’ve played quite a few public courses in my life and usually know what I’m getting myself into when I go that route. But this one was on the below average end of the spectrum, and for the price (nearly $60 for 9 holes), it was very disappointing and not at all worth the price.

Love the people at the pool. I would like it if they would pick the garbage up at the end of the day. Each morning there is a fair amount of garbage on the deck.
