We played at 1781 in middle of August, in the middle of a very hot summer. We had a tee time, and paid in the clubhouse. When the amount came up, it was $4 and some change more than the $70 they charge to play a round. I asked the cashier if there was a credit card fee and she said yes. I said “oh ok let me check if I have enough cash” and she informed me they didn’t take cash. I can understand charging the credit card fee, but to not have an alternate option to pay is absurd. So after paying nearly $75, you’d think course conditions would be immaculate. So would I. We got to the first hole, teed off, and our carts beeped and locked to return to the cart path. Not a single person from the cashier to the guys giving us our carts, let us know that it was cart path only. Considering the beautiful summer we’ve had, we couldn’t understand why. We played a few holes and quickly learned the conditions of the fairways were in horrible condition. Please take a look at the pictures attached. Mud and dirt surrounded you on every fairway leading up to the holes. I can’t believe I wasted $75 to play at a course that should be charging $20.

1781 promotes itself as a public course with a country club atmosphere, since it changed ownership several years ago. The clubhouse, restaurant, pro shop and golf carts are all significant upgrades from the “Scenic Valley” days. The course itself is no better and in some areas worse than years prior. The service at bag drop and in the pro shop are better than years past. 1781 has reversed the 9’s, so now #1 is the old 10th and the new 18th is the old #9. I preferred the prior configuration as in the past you started on two easy par 4’s to ease you into the round and you finished on a more challenging par 5 than you do now. The greens and bunkers were always in very good shape in past years. Today they were also in very good shape. However, many of the fairways were in atrocious condition per the attached pics. I do not recall the fairways ever being this bad in past years under old or new ownership. At full rack pricing of $70 for 18 holes weekday or weekend the course is on the high end of nearby courses for weekend play. It is non-competitive and not a good value for weekday play at $70. I am not aware of any course inside an hour drive of here that charges this much during the week. The condition of the fairways make $70 on a weekday that much more exorbitant.

Absolutely ridiculous they charge what they do for this course. I don’t think I’ve seen a course this out of shape. Every fairway looked like a wild fire went through (have examples of 2 different fairways, only 2 cause I can’t put 18 pictures on this review). Tee boxes were terrible, craters and extremely hard ground. Greens were okay, but doesn’t seem like maintenance was a high priority for them. Clubhouse is cool, would have loved to have dinner and drinks after my round there, but couldn’t justify giving up more of my money to them. Feel bad for members there, if I was one it wouldn’t be for much longer

I am giving 3 stars just for the fact that the owner replies to each review, it seems. Kudos, many don't bother. I will be up front, I have not played this course since it's huge makeover, (BIG bucks invested there) I have, however played it many, many times in the past, I live literally 8 minutes from the course. I am a golf freak, I love the a game, I could care less about "country club" effect....(I realize your business model is including the profit from food and drink and that is important) I know some people love that stuff, so I am commenting on the course only. Here is something the owners can't change, I was always of the opinion that the course was designed around the housing plan,,,,kinda jammed in if you will. Some holes on the course are beautiful and a nice look, to a golfer, a few are weird (we gotta get one more hole here to make it 18, let's jam this one in here....straight down hill and extremely narrow, kinda mickey mouse) NOT the owners fault. When I played it years ago it was very reasonably priced....not now!! from what I am reading. I agree with one commenter that since it is in Peters, the owners have elected to cater to only the BMW, Mercedes crowd (you know what I mean and my friend owns one so this isn't an attack) The prices I am seeing do NOT fit the course, what with many courses in the area, that are in far better condition (remember, they had the same weather) charging far less.....sure, bump it up some, because you put a lot of money in...but do you want play on that course? Lower the price. I drive by all the time, and it is not super active, you could have that thing filled up if you lowered your price and advertised it!! I won't play it at your present prices. Owners! For the longest time I didn't even know this was a public course....(with membership option), where is your advertising to the public as such. I thought it was private. Where is your signage at the driveway?? I see the pictures people have posted, condition is pretty gnarly ....maybe not your fault, with the weather, but you refuse to reply to the people saying it costs too much, with just a brush off of we are working hard to get it into shape. That doesn't address their complaint about the price. Let me very politely tell you that if it was in A+ shape from tee to green on 18 holes $70. and up for a weekday price is not worth it for this layout.....My brother comes in from Ohio once a year and we play five rounds, enjoying the abundance of courses in this area.....and we play them all, sadly, owners of 1781, you are not on the list this year, lower the price by $20. and we will be there. Fifty bucks and the word gets out, more play!! I would love to play your course, but I can play another course twice at your prices. Remember to a real golfer, a well struck golf ball is just as satisfying on a cheap muni as well as a country club. Thanks for listening owners, I would love to hear something said about your pricing, why not make it a little more accessible and let the public know they can play there, I thought it was private.

I can't say enough about the facilities and staff at the 1781 club. The building and interior is tasteful and beautiful. The staff could not be friendlier or more accomidating. We had my son's rehersal dinner there and everyone keeps complimenting me on the food and dining facility.
