Description

Mainland is a classic Montgomery County public course with a comfortable, repeat-play feel and a layout that rewards steady golf. The course typically emphasizes keeping the ball in play—tree framing and strategy make placement off the tee matter more than raw distance. It’s a strong fit for leagues and regular rounds because the routing flows well and the challenge is “honest” rather than gimmicky. Scoring often hinges on approach distance control and putting, where greens can quietly separate good rounds from great ones. Overall, it’s a dependable SEPA staple: straightforward, strategic, and easy to return to often.

edit: 9/22/2025: taking two stars due to course backups, starter issues In our most recent round, we pulled up to the first hole a few minutes prior to our tee time, and the starter - a teenage kid - didn't acknowledge us or even put his phone down. I didn't think much of it and said hello, and we talked briefly about the other groups that were going out. He mentioned there was a group behind us. Even though it was past their supposed tee time and we were ready to go, he had us wait a few minutes, and they showed up and ran to the tee box and teed off. Not a huge deal either. But he never got back off his phone when it was presumably time for us to go. Generally the other starter (who is always very nice and personable) will tell us when the group ahead of us is on the green and we're good to go. This one didn't even respond when directly asked, so we decided he didn't care either way and teed off. I'm not sure he even noticed we teed off to be honest. It felt like the entire course was backed up when we went out. Admittedly it was a Saturday, but from our tee time we only managed to get in about 13 holes before dark (following closely behind the group in front of us, and literally being hit into by the group behind). I can't help but think that if the starter was more attentive with sending groups off as the next one was on the green, we may have shaved off a bit of time. On the last hole we got to, hole 14, we had five groups on a single hole (group on the green, group waiting on the fairway, group waiting to tee off, and us waiting to hit with another group that caught up to us although ended up leaving). We took our tee shots and then ended up leaving for the day as it was far too dark. Given our tee time we were averaging around 17 minutes a hole, which (had we managed to get in 18) would have been a 5 hour round for our threesome. old review: I’m definitely not a great golfer, still working on improving, but this course is always fairly fun and an enjoyable time (it’s also the closest course to me, so that helps too) Recently it feels as if it’s gotten far busier - I think the last few times I’ve played, we’ve had to wait a few minutes per hole for the people in front of us, and we’ve also had to wait for carts to be free. No massive backups or anything, but it seems like there are generally a few slowdowns. It feels a little overpriced for what it is, but it’s the nicer of the three or four courses within a few miles of me, so that’s understandable I suppose.

This course was challenging but also a lot of fun for a beginner. Course is narrow, multiple times other golfers were venturing onto adjacent fairways to retrieve their balls. This course has cart girls and the drinks are strong so beware. Food at the bar was good, also has a building venue for weddings. Looked amazing with the leaves changing at the start of fall, will def go back.

Nice course! Fun to play, and they even got us out there early! I’ll be back here for sure.

Mainland Golf Course was nice. The fairways were beautiful. The staff was friendly. The greens were a little long, but understandable due to time of the season. The sand traps need work. I’d definitely play the course again.

Nice layout, decently maintained Greens usually roll pretty good 👍. Most of my fellow golfers don't fix their ball marks though so I end up fixing at least 10 per hole. Fairways are ok Tee boxes need some love Most sand traps are terrible though 😢. A "simple" good raking would go a long way to improving them.
