Description

Clayton Park is one of those rare public park courses that’s perfectly set up for real-life golf—quick to access, easy to play, and simple enough to fit into a busy day. The 9-hole layout is ideal for beginners learning the game, but it stays interesting for better players who want to work on scoring and pace. Because there are no complicated frills, the course encourages you to focus on fundamentals: keep it in play, hit greens, and putt well. The surrounding park setting gives the round a relaxed, outdoorsy feel that’s more “recreation” than “pressure.” Overall, Clayton is high-utility public golf: affordable, approachable, and perfect for frequent short rounds.

This is a great course for those who want to work on their game in an affordable and low-stress setting. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. There is a nice chipping/putting practice area. They don’t do tee times, so you can go at your own pace, play solo, or join up with others if you want. Don’t come here expecting a championship PGA course and you’ll have a fun round. Things to know: there are no water hazards or bunkers in play, but there are enough challenging shots navigating hills and trees to keep things interesting. Most of your shots will be up or down hill. Although most of the holes are fairly short par 3, holes 1, 8, and 9 are long enough (250-300 yards) to warrant bringing a driver. The greens are not in the best shape as of August 2022 (4 holes had “temporary greens” which were spray painted circles on the fairway), but it’s certainly better than other $13 courses I’ve played. The layout isn’t the most intuitive and some additional signage near the greens pointing to the next tees would be helpful; my group encountered two other groups who had accidentally skipped holes. The course is very hilly and there are no carts or cart paths, so this course may not be ideal for total beginners or anyone who has trouble walking up and down grassy inclines. You can bring or rent a push cart, or get some extra exercise by carrying your bag. My phone pedometer calculated about 12,000 steps (roughly 5 miles) and 25 flights of stairs to play 18. I will definitely play here again and look forward to seeing the greens in better shape in the fall.

Course is nice. Basic public course. We live nearby and my college age kids enjoy going with their friends, but the counter people are so rude. They always give the guys a hard time and seem to be looking for fight. My kids just stay polite and ignore them. You work at a golf course shouldn't you be happy?!?

So many Delco golfers cut their teeth at Clayton because it qas accessible, inexpensive, and set up for beginners. It is NOT worth a $22 flat rate however, so I will not be coming back nor referring it to anyone ever again. I am not the only one that feels this way. We already get taxed alot in Delco as it is. I'll be taking my money elsewhere and so will alot of other people. Nice job Delco Council! Keep the hits coming and see whose left when you're done!

Guy in the pro shop during the morning is very friendly and I have never had a problem playing at Clayton over 50 times except it can get pretty slow in the summer. Not the best conditions but for the price you can’t beat it. If it was still last years price ($13) I would give it 5 stars.

The old guy in the clubhouse is racist. He didn’t let my nephew (who is black) play the course because he didn’t look “like a golfer”. When he had a polo on. It was his first time golfing and he is 15 years old. Very bad golf course. Greens are terrible and a very unhappy pro shop worker. DONT GO HERE!
