Description

Shannondell is a popular SEPA public course with a big, busy facility feel and a layout that rewards steady shot-making. The routing typically emphasizes positioning because tree framing and hazards can make approaches much tougher when you’re out of place. It’s a strong league and regulars course—repeatable, time-friendly, and familiar enough that local knowledge quickly improves scoring. Approach distance control and putting usually decide the day, especially when greens are rolling well. Overall, it’s a Montgomery County staple: accessible, strategic, and built for frequent play.

We had a gorgeous wedding at The Club at Shannondell! I had multiple people come up to me at the wedding, asking how I learned about this gem of a venue, and honestly all I could say was sheer luck! Of all the wedding venues we toured, The Club at Shannondell had the most personality, had the most delicious smelling food wafting in from the onsite restaurant, and we knew it would be where we got married. Huge shoutout to the Events Manager, Roxanne, who was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process and a huge help. Here is a couple of key things that make this place stand out above the others: -Chadwick's, the onsite restaurant and source of our catering, was delicious. We chose the Stations menu, and every single item was incredible, even the passed appetizers during cocktail hour looked handmade, and my only regret is having so much to do as the bride that I couldn't eat more! However, our dinner was spectacular with multiple chef-attended stations, and I felt like we got an incredible value for the experience. -Ballroom space: This venue is so beautiful and requires minimal additional decor. From the huge black chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to the giant fireplace in the center of the room, there is a wonderful warmth to the room that is hard to fake. For my wedding of about 60 people, it was a perfect amount of space. I’d caution that it might be a little cramped for 150+ guests, but if you’re struggling to find the “just right” sized venue, you may find some luck here! -Package value: We saved a lot of money using this venue simply because there are so many perks associated! By booking through The Club at Shannondell, we received our cake complimentary from The Master’s Baker, the centerpieces were covered by Mole’s Flowers, we got a free game of golf at the course for 4 people, we had an incredible private menu tasting, and also got a free hotel room for our wedding night (and free shuttle for guests!). Overall, there was a lot of savings without compromising on quality! However, if you are planning on having a large bridal party, the bridal suite may be slightly small, though that was not an issue for my situation. -Staff: As I mentioned, Roxanne the event manager did an amazing job throughout the entire process. On the wedding day, the dining staff were wonderful as well. They checked up on us frequently and I must give a special shoutout to the server who personally fetched my husband and I dinner ahead of everyone else. Overall, we had an amazing experience and whenever we are craving our wedding food again, we can always head on over to The Club at Shannondell and eat at Chadwick’s.

Shannondell policy of no Golf carts to be given out after 2 PM is ridiculous! On 4 different occasions, I’ve been told, “if you want to walk, only then you can play.. it’s our policy “!! What a ridiculous policy… people go and spend their money and are told off this ridiculous policy. Obviously they don’t want your business. Well, for Shannondell’s information, there are many other better places to play around in this area and they happily accept my money.

This was my third round playing here. I want to give this place five stars, but there are two big problems that need to be addressed: So many of the sand traps are just dirt. How hard is it to load up a dump truck with sand and fill in these rocky craters? Turn on your hot dog rollers and heat up some hot dogs. 8am tee time golfers will buy a 10am hot dog at the turn. Too late in the season? Do you guys hate free money? Takes 3 minutes of work.... Fix one of these two things and I'll change my review to 5 stars. Otherwise the course is fantastic and love playing here. I'll be back.

There’s a reason tee times are frequently available while others are booked, and we won’t be coming back here anytime soon. $77 and our tee time was nearly 30 mins behind. They had 3 rangers staffed but all they did was stand around the podium under the umbrella, while one would walk over and start people. But don’t worry, they were making sure people didn’t park to close because “it’s going to get busy later” and made players coming in move their cars farther off into the parking lot. No instructions were given about keeping pace of play, and we didn’t see a ranger the entire round. Our tee time was 9:48 and we didn’t tee off until 10:20. Pace was dragging on the front and we didn’t finish until 3:09. No cart girls or guys selling refreshments on a 90+ degree day either, and the water jugs were empty. Remember how it was “going to get busy”? Well there were 6 people at the restaurant when we left, good thing those lazy rangers were focused on parking instead of keeping the pace up… On top of all that the first hole is dogleg right down a hill, so you’d think one of those rangers would go down to the corner and radio back when it’s all clear - nope, they were useless and didn’t seem like they understood their job or want to work so we stood there hoping the next group wouldn’t start teeing into us while we waited for the group ahead to finish on the green. It’s very clear management is terrible here, which is a shame bc the course was fun. On a positive note, the groundskeepers do a great job here and keep the course in good shape - the only redeeming quality.

I was interested to see a cluster of recent poor reviews, as I used to play here a lot and always had a good experience. Today, not so much. They allow a single to book a tee time online, which isn’t that common, but they back that up with absolutely no knowledge of how to send off groups. Sending out a single behind 5 foursomes and before another is a joke. 3 starters/rangers, but they are all just sitting under an umbrella. No carts were available at first, so I carried my bag over to the fairly distant putting green and back. Zero enforcement of pace of play or course etiquette. Dudes playing loud music, driving all over, looking for balls for 10 minutes. I’m not a snob, but there is a limit. I drove off the course after 5 holes took 1:30 to play. I won’t be back, too many other nearby options who actually care about golf. Golf here seems to exist as an afterthought to the banquet facility.
