Description

Harmony Ridge has the feel of a solid “everyday 18” in the Pittsburgh region—structured, approachable, and built for steady rounds with friends or league play. The course rewards calm course management, where positioning and avoiding big misses usually matter more than trying to hit heroic shots. It’s a comfortable round for mixed handicaps because it typically offers readable targets and a consistent rhythm from hole to hole. Better players can still chase a number by tightening lines and leaning on wedge proximity and putting conversion. Overall, it’s reliable Ambridge-area golf: practical, friendly, and built for repeat play.

Today we went to the worst golf course in Beaver County. Let me start with the positives first… they had a desk worker, they had hot dogs rolling on the mini grill, and the cart worked fine. (Please keep in mind this course was $24 for nine holes of golf). When you make it to the first tee box (and all the tee boxes for that matter) expect to find dirt, holes, and no where clean to tee your ball. Next, expect construction equipment on one of the holes, yes, heavy construction equipment on the golf course. Fairways are 4/10 and greens are 3/10. Man, do I hope they use that $24 to fix up this course, it is a disaster for that cost. BEWARE!

Henry Fownes, the founder and designer of Oakmont Country club, once said "Let the clumsy, the spineless, the alibi artist stand aside. A shot poorly played, should be a shot irrevocably lost." Harmony Ridge takes this idea and expands on it to the maximum. (Mr. Fownes is listed on the website as co designer along with his son, W.C. Fownes, and Emil Loeffler. ) Given Mr. Fownes fondness of punishing golfers, I am sure he would appreciate Harmony Ridges ability to not only punish bad shots but also the good ones too. The rough is penal to say the least but the fairways will also punish you depending on which stripe you hit it into (as you can see by the pictures, the white ball is the fairway). The greens (other than the first) were fairly flat and slowest I have ever played. Ball cleaner was good! It's a short course with few tee boxes in good shape and would be very gettable if it wasn't for the 4 inch long rough and patchy long fairways. Ultimately, this course could be fun if it was taken better care of.

Very pleasant staff! Even after arriving late for a tee time, I was happily welcomed and on the first tee box in 15min. Concessions were reasonably priced, with multiple options for dinning before or after your round. Excellent for beginners, as there is not a lot of water to worry about losing balls in. A variety of short-medium length holes provide excellent practice for all skill levels. The greens were very respectable, given a lack of rain over the past few weeks. Sand traps were in great shape.

Worst course I’ve ever played. Nothing is kept up with and needs watered and mowed. 24 dollars to play on hard thick ground is an actual scam. Greens are cracking due to them being so dry. Couldn’t pay me to go back honestly. They care too much about their bar then the course. If they cared they would have more business so it doesn’t even make sense

This course could be pretty decent if it was owned by someone who was a little more willing to invest in maintaining it. There are large bald spots in greens and fairways, the tee boxes are rough, there are several inexplicable unmowed areas, and rusty, abandoned heavy equipment scattered around the course. The greens were exceedingly slow and squishy, with lots of clover and unfixed ball marks as well. A little more investment and professionalism from the groundskeepers would go a long way. Fittingly, the carts are old, slow, and generally beat up as well. There are 3 holes on this 9 hole course that are clearly an afterthought, shoehorned into the existing layout just to make the course 9 holes. The result is a pair of very short and out of place par 3s, and nearly every tee box is difficult to find, as it is not anywhere near the last green. However, the most inexplicable problem with this course is the complete lack of garbage cans anywhere on the course. Unsurprisingly, the course has a lot of empty drink containers and other trash on the ground. The worst example is the bush behind the 5th tee box that features a large pile of empty beer cans. When you don't give people trash cans, they make their own I suppose. There were some redeeming qualities. The course was affordable and unpretentious, people were friendly, there are some nice views, and the 6 holes that were actually designed into the original course are reasonably nice. Its a shame the people who run this place don't take better care of it. It could be a pretty nice little course.
