Very sad to say that the course is in very bad shape. I love how friendly the staff is, but nothing in this course was playable except for the first few holes and the last. Some of them had greens with grass longer than the fairways. Some courses had no fairway at all due to either grass missing or grass as tall as roughs. None of the bunkers were maintained and some of them had bushes growing up. Although it's pretty cheap, there are many better places to play for $35. I will let you decide from the photos.

Best conditions I've ever played at Detwiler. They are currently putting the finishing touches on some major course renovations, and they are looking great!! Beautiful added creek now splits the fairway on 14th. The greens rolled very true. Grew up playing this course and excited to see the upgrades to the course!

Great municipal course. They were working on some cart paths but it didn’t affect the course. Well-manicured, greens putted true. I fortunately was not in any bunkers but they did look a little rocky. Need a little work there. This was my first experience playing golf in Ohio and I’d play here again.

*******. May 30, 2025 update. ******* Very much improved since my last post. There is hope that course conditions can mend. The fungus disease plaguing the landing area on hole #4 has completely cured. The tee boxes on all the holes have fresh grass. The new mgmt company also appears to have adequate staffing. While all these improvements are very positive signs of course corrections, there's still work to be done to regain the status Detwiler once boasted 30+ years ago as one of the best public courses in the Toledo area. Looking forward to witnessing more improvements in the future. May 2024 The course is in better shape since I played in 2022, but it’s a long way from recovering to the condition it was 10+ years ago. The tee boxes need significant repair, especially the par 3's on the front 9. The jungle thick growth of weeds, bushes, and small trees on the front 9 needs to be removed surrounding the teeboxes on holes 2,6,7, and 9. All the brush buildup bordering the water on every hole on the back 9 needs to be removed, especially on hole #11. The 4th fairway still has some orange colored disease spread over a large portion of the drive landing area 200+ yards off the tee. The 4th green has a damaged area near the bunker. The 8th hole green has a damaged area the size of a manhole cover in the front left. But hey on a good note, the fairways are finally trimmed to a visable level lower than the rough.

Very disappointed in this course…more dirt on this course than anywhere I have experienced. No sand traps…dirt traps…extremely difficult to hit from. Even large patches of dirt in front of some greens! Even their greens should be called browns. Course has a decent layout and some picturesque holes, but the city of Toledo should be embarrassed by the conditions of this course. Golfers, save your money unless course conditions improve over years.
