Description

A Donald Ross classic refined by later restoration, Pine Needles is one of the Sandhills' purest strategic tests. The routing glides over natural contours with open fronts and tightly mown surrounds that reward imagination. From the Medal tees the course tallies just over 7,000 yards, but variety in wind and angles keeps it engaging from every set. Host to multiple U.S. Women's Opens, it's renowned for firm, fast conditions and beautifully presented greens. A 20-acre practice facility, short-course loop and expansive range make it a destination for both play and instruction.

Is it pricey? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes! Unbelievable Donald Ross design, a whimsical challenge that evokes nostalgia, your first time playing it. Stunning views, friendly staff, and no issues with pace of play. 10/10 can’t wait to return.

Stayed in the Ross Lodge in Aug 2025 for a long weekend of golfing with the fellas. If your group is looking for an affordable and we'll done golf outing, this is your destination. Many different sized cabins are available. The Ross Lodge has a walkout patio that no joke has it's own private driving range! I attached a picture to see. Pine needles golf course is a Donald Ross design which blends into the sandhills topography beautifully. Caution note: These Ross courses all around Southern Pines and Pinehurst are extremely challenging. Consider yourself warned. The lodges have very modest furnishings. A little heavy on the wood paneling for my taste. The cabin kitchen Facilities really don't allow you to cook. The package for our group was 3 days of excellent golfing, 3 nights stay at Pine Needles for roughly $1200 US, so approximately $400/day per person which included greens fees. About half of our meals were included in that price point. Abundant free parking. Very classy

Recently went here for an annual golf trip and this course has always been a favorite of ours. We love their putting greens and driving range, but need to try their four hole loop the next time we're in town. Staff has always treated well, as well. Definitely a challenging course, but that's part of the fun! Thank you Pine Needles!

Its like stepping back in time. I loved it. Club house and bar was great. Golf course was in good shape. The greens were in great shape but the fairways were a little rough. Overall we had a great time playing it.

I wish I could review the Hotel from the Course separately. We stayed here for 2 nights (Friday-Sunday). A large group, planned our trip April 4th. A couple of few issues that didn't sit well. 1) First off, the staff were all incredible. The food was good, the golf course was a standout in our 3 days of golf, and the facilities were nice as well. From the staff shuttling us to & from the range, the dining room staff, desk and more. All great people. 2) As a group of 12, we had planned the trip not knowing the hotel was a dispersed group of lodges. When we checked in, we all had rooms a bit scattered around the hotel. Most of us had 2 BR rooms, while 2 groups actually had 4 BR rooms. Why couldn't we have been doubled up? It would have been ideal to have all of us closer together, in as few rooms as possible. Maybe partially our fault for not doign due diligence on the hotel. 3) On the first night, I had to battle 2 MASSIVE cockroaches running loose throughout the living room. The final day, I saw a couple in the bedroom floor upside down. So at least it looks like they are aware of the problem and are treating it, but also its a bit disgusting. After packing up some dirty clothes, a coule of smaller roaches felt out of my clothes so now I have the irrarational fear of bring home cock roaches.
