Definitely an experience like I’ve never had before. Very hard course to play if you’re a beginner to average golfer. Lots of blind shots and short par 3’s give you the opportunity to get that 1. A ton of slope and hills on the greens make it challenging to putt on but stay on as well. Amazing time and spent most of my time in awe of the course! If you want a challenge, this is your huckleberry!!! Can’t wait to get back there to play it again!!!

Tobacco Road Golf Club — February 2026 Review We teed it up at Tobacco Road in mid-February 2026, and let’s just say the weather leading into the trip had us second-guessing the decision. Cold, gray, less-than-ideal conditions all week. But golf karma is real — the sun broke through the morning we played, and from the moment we pulled into the parking lot, the energy shifted. The anticipation was already high… and then we saw it in person. The photos online? They don’t even come close. The scale. The elevation. The wild, sculpted waste areas. The visual deception. It’s part golf course, part art installation, part psychological experiment — and somehow it all works. What I appreciated most: this course rewards committed swings. If you step up, pick your line, and trust it, you’ll be rewarded. Miss it a little? You’re often still in play. It’s not unfair. It’s strategic. A random shank here or there won’t destroy your round — but indecision absolutely will. Tobacco Road demands focus. Bring your A game mentally as much as physically. A few tips for anyone heading there: • Take driver everywhere you can — not just for the scorecard, but for the player photos. The tee shots look epic. • Tip the cart girl well. You’ll want the hydration. • Pack some Advil… your shoulder is going to be sore from high-fiving after every ridiculous hole and telling your buddies, “Yeah, I played Tobacco Road.” This isn’t a traditional golf experience — and that’s exactly the point. It’s bold. It’s dramatic. It’s unforgettable. And when the sun hit those sand ridges in February? Pure magic. Would I play it again? Without a doubt!!

The Good: -Course is extremely unique and fun to get around. Every hole is something new to figure out with some visually stunning work with the pines, fairways and immense sand/bunker areas. -Play works best if you think your way through the routing by carefully studying the hole, picking a line and committing to the shot. Bomb and gougers would not be too happy here. -Rustic vibe all over the course is amazing. Very much no fuss golf forward. -Great proshop (logo is lit) and snack bar. The Not So Good: -$300+ green fee for so-so conditions. Some of it is understandable since the course design tends to funnel all shots towards the same area, so while the fairway might seem pristine off the tee, you show up to your shot and you'll be lucky not to be in a divot. This also included slow and furry greens. -Staff (except the young men and women working the cart barn, those folks were fantastic!) seemed to be annoyed and bothered we were golfing. Overall: I enjoyed playing the course and the experience, however the $300+ green fees for the conditions would make me hesitant to return in the future. Hence the 4 stars.

Quite a challenging layout. Course conditions were good. Be prepared to deal with a lot of bunkers and waste areas. Very few water hazards. I'd recommend first timers hire a caddy as shot lines off the tee are not always clear. Quite a bit of elevation change due to rolling sand dunes. The greens also have a lot of contour, but not crazy fast so are playable.

If you are worried about playing this place in the winter. Don’t. Go ahead and book it now. It’s in amazing shape. It’s fun, and the staff are amazing. If you’re visiting ask the cart guy Ryan about golfing around North Carolina. Turns out he loves golf between Myrtle beach just like I do. I knew it was going to be good when he brings up Brick Landing. The people, layout, greens, and bunkers are all the best there is to offer. Thank you Tobacco Road for an adventure around the Sandhills. If you’re reading this review do yourself a favor and just go for it.
