A classic piedmont muni with tons of character packed into a compact footprint. At just over 6,000 yards and par 70, McCanless favors accuracy and a tidy short game over brute force. Tight driving lanes, doglegs and small, subtly pitched greens keep locals coming back for the chess match. It opened right after WWII and still embraces its community-course DNA: friendly, affordable and walkable. Expect straightforward conditions that reward smart course management.

Excellent course for the money. Friendly staff and the fairways are great. The tee boxes are a little used, but that is okay. The greens need some TLC, but for the cost they are great. We went on a Saturday and it was busy with most tee times booked. Seemed like all players were polite and had no problems, a few young folks did drive on a tee box…but great time.

I like going to McCandless, Scott is very friendly and he has a good staff helping keep the greens looking good, I like going every couple of weeks just to get out and get some exercise and have fun playing with one of my friends, always fun picking and challenging one another!

Affordable golf. Quite crowded in the middle of the week when we went. No bunkers, but lots of sand on the greens.

The environment is laid back and peaceful with affordable prices. The course is simple and beginner friendly. I gave 4 stars because we were rushed (by staff) towards the end of our game, we'll try to go on a more of an "off" day to get a better slow paced experience.
