TL;DR…poorly run and overpriced, especially in the summer.
14 February 2026 - This place could fix most of their problems if they would just communicate like a normal person. I made the mistake of coming here again, thinking the cheap winter rates would be worth it, LOL.
Booked a tee time in advance. I like to show up pretty early to warmup, etc. Walking up to the clubhouse, you could not miss the bright teal/green spray paint fertilizer that completely covered the first two holes. Red flag #1. No mention of this when I booked the tee time. I wonder why.
I then checked-in. The clubhouse was very clear that I should start on the back 9, and was insinuating I should go right away, even though my tee time was 40 minutes out. Red flag #2.
Started with my warmup. Still had 20 minutes before my booked tee time and the guy yells across from the clubhouse that “you can tee off if you’re ready”, as if I’m doing something wrong. Note that there was no one else teeing off or waiting to do so. I was the only one. Sorry I’m cramping your style to double-book my tee time, LOL. (Follows the trend of previous review of being a money-grab.) Decided I would play nice and just start early. Whatever.
Start off the back. 5-holes in (#15), I catch a group of 5. Of course. (Again, I actually don’t care how many people are in a group, as long as they can keep pace or let me play-thru.) On top of this, apparently there was a tournament earlier that day, and potentially these people were the last group. Again, totally fine, but that was NEVER mentioned at any point. Also, imagine if I had teed-off right after I checked-in?! I would have been right behind this group from the get-go, with no option to play-thru due to the tournament. Yet, the clubhouse was yelling at me to start early. WHY?!
One hole later, #16, a group of 2 comes up behind me and I fill them in. We decide to play together as we’re just waiting anyways. Come to find out they indeed booked my EXACT SAME TEE TIME. Guy running the desk must have cleared my tee time once I checked-in, assuming I’d tee off early so he could re-book. Freaking called it. Anyways, at one point we just chit-chatted for 15 minutes to let the 5-some get way ahead.
Turned the corner for the front 9. Ends up a solid half of the front 9 had been spray painted with that fertilizer. Not really a big deal, but I probably would have gone somewhere else to play, which is why I’m sure it was never mentioned.
Unfortunately, I have some friends that play here on the regular. I’ll just have to prepare myself for some kind of shenanigans every time. If it’s just me, I will literally never come back here again. As mentioned previously, The Pointe is about 10 minutes up the road, very well run, and cheaper. Nags Head Golf Links is about 15 minutes south, is slightly more expensive, but better in every way.
19 September 2025 - Been here multiple times. Basically the Wild West every time. Do not come here if they seem busy. Zero course management. They just let people onto the course regardless of tee times. No ranger. Multiple groups stacked up at every hole. At least one group of 5 ahead of us. I’m actually totally fine with groups larger than 4. I’ve played in some. However, when I do, we are always hyper-aware of pace of play and letting people play-thru when needed. This place is not that.
There were seven (7!) carts stacked up on hole #7; almost half way through the round! Ridiculous. Pure money grab. If you pay, they send you out. 4:40 for 18 holes is borderline insulting. Last time I was here I had a 5-hour round, which is definitely insulting. Fool me once...
Such a shame, as it's a decent, challenging course. Staff was friendly, but at some point that doesn't matter. Will only come here in the winter when it's slow. Avoid April - October like the plague.
The Pointe is about 10 minutes up the road from here. They are very well run and tee times are actually honored / limited. Can play 18 holes (with 4 people) in four hours or less every time, even in peak summer. Cheaper to play there, too.
