Having a home in Southport for over 10 years I’d driven by this course hundreds of times and never played it. Now I see why. This past weekend I had 3 friends in from out of state for a golf trip and we decided to play it due to its location, even with $90 rates. After getting there we realized the greens had just been punched recently despite no mention of that when booking. We had a 7:48am tee time on a Saturday and were told by the starter that we were the first group out and they want everyone to finish in 4 hours. It was our second round of the weekend so decided to play 2-man scramble to keep pace up. On the first hole we started with an eagle and a birdie - not struggling by any means. By hole 2 we had a twosome already on our tails. We let them play through after that hole and they went ahead and skipped hole 3. After that there was another foursome behind them that was playing fast - members who were playing from senior tees and not putting out. By hole 5 the ranger approached us and said that some members were complaining about our group and that we were a hole behind pace. Although they were behind us they were not waiting long enough on us to even have the opportunity to let them play through, which we would have if we they were clearly faster than us. We made the turn at 2hr 7min and got a lecture from the starter that the twosome had made the turn 28 minutes prior, implying again that we were playing way too slow. This was a twosome who skipped an entire hole and not finishing putts. This starter was very condescending and should not be in that position in any respectable golf course. This constant sense of being rushed to appease members who want to play speed golf was very disappointing and ruined our experience at the course. Not to mention the greens were average conditions at best and many of the holes were not punched cleanly. We ended up finishing the round in under 4 hours and by the tee on 18 the starter drove up and told us that we were now “ahead of pace” and that we could “slow down and enjoy it”. Very frustrated by the situation I asked him who was complaining about our pace, he said it was the group behind us but asked us not to say anything to them about it. What a joke this guy was. This course is not worth $50 let alone $90. Would highly recommend going elsewhere, plenty of better places to play in that area.

Beautiful, well maintained course. $100 for 18 w a cart. Only negative was that we were told we were not allowed to stop at the clubhouse at the turn. No one at the pro shop mentioned that we had to play through, but they insisted we could not stop. $100 for no stop at the turn seems… interesting.

Hey this staff was excellent. The course is a lot of fun. The greens roll real nice. They give you a course booklet to help with course layou. A really great day.

Great course in one of my favorite beach towns.

We played on 10 MAR 26 and the weather was great ... breezy, mixed sun and clouds, with temps in the low 70's. The staff was friendly and easy to work with / helpful for a newbie to the course. Fairways are Bermuda and still in winter condition, which makes for a lot of roll on low, wind-vheater shots. Greensboro were in nice condition and quite receptive. Pace of play was fine and the course was not crowded. At $87 pp including cart, it was a bit pricey - but the experience was enjoyable. I would play again!
