Your typical Muni golf course, the greens are mowed and the flags set but not much luxury otherwise. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the price is right, which compensates for the lack of extravagance in the facilities. Look to pay around $55 for a round with the cart, or $15 for the cart only if you purchase the season's pass. The views are beautiful with #17 overlooking the City of Utica. The course restaurant, "Daniele's at Valley View" has recently been refurbished and will hopefully begin offering lunch "at-the-turn" again once they get back into operation. There is also an extensive walking and bike path that circumnavigates the entire Municipal property, so bird watchers and bicyclists have alternative activities to playing golf. The course can be very wet, especially in Springtime and most of the Tee-boxes are off-level, some quite a bit. The Autumn views of the Mohawk Valley are spectacular from the elevated locations, such as on Green #3 or the ones on the back, like #17. There is abundant wildlife, such as deer and water fowl wandering here and there while playing your round. As Valley View is a Robert Trent Jones/Walter Travis course, the greens are very undulating and difficult. The par is 71, 6786 yards, 70.0 rating, with a 110 slope. Built in 1927, it holds up well to the challenge of modern golf equipment and is therefore still a worthy challenge to any golfer for a good outing and walk. Enjoy your round! JM

Such an awesome local golf course and it's city owned. Kept in good shape and offers beautiful views over Utica and a lot of trees and nature all around. I almost always see deer! Highly recommend this spot. Good price for a great spot A

Not sure why this course only gets a 4.3 rating on Google. Anytime I get a chance to play a Robert Trent Jones I’m all in. This course didn’t disappoint in my expectations. A classic design with an emphasis on accurate approach shots a premium. A good mixture of tight sloping fairways and generously wide fairways on the longer par 4’s and 5’s. Lots of elevation to challenge you. Definitely need to play this course several times to understand where your misses need to be. A poorly played approach shot will challenge the best golfer. The greens are a good mixture of small, medium and large sizes with plenty of undulations. If you short side yourself (and you definitely will) you better have patience and a good putter to save par. If there’s one thing I would be critical of is the greens are too firm. Well placed shots are not rewarded due to the firmness. In closing if you’re in the area you need to put this course on your list. Played 6/20/2024. Temperatures in the mid 80’s, sunny, slight winds.

Absolutely gorgeous views! Golf, I can't speak about since I'm not a golfer, however seems to be nice, and people seem to enjoy! Nice quiet place!! If you come please pick up your trash!! Don't come to party, this is a place people like to come and be one with nature.

I’ve had good times here before but we will unfortunately not be coming back. It’s a nice enough course with good views and holes, but the treatment from the staff has been unacceptable. Don’t bother going if you’re not a pro player. Just to clarify the situation this latest time, my friends played today as a group of 3 along with my friends wife that rode with us but didn’t play. We played through the first 9 keeping a pretty good pace with someone on the hole behind but never kept waiting. Even so we let them skip ahead of us. At the 10th hole we had one of the staff come up to us and tell us there had been complaints about us “holding up the course” despite the fact we had been playing fast (spent the same amount of time as they say is expected for the front 9) and had no one waiting. We were told to pick up the pace, and when we told them there was no one waiting for us and we were already running through we just got a shrug. We felt pretty uncomfortable and rushed about things after so our group decided to leave. We went up to the staff member after to clarify what happened (because once again we were rushing and had no one waiting) and we were told the actual initial complaint was that they saw my friends wife wearing a (ankle length) sundress and walking around on the course. We were told this wasn’t allowed at all and that the others were upset, despite nothing being posted or told to us when we came, and the fact that she wasn’t even playing. We brought up that this sounded sexist and we got told we were thinking about it wrong and that this was an overall rule (it’s not). And of course reiterated that we were taking too long and there were people waiting for us despite the fact that we know there weren’t. Overall the situation wasn’t resolved and we played 11 holes out of the 18 we paid for because we felt too uncomfortable to continue. I would really recommend against going here if you’re a novice player, or are a woman honestly. We’re disgusted and will never come back. What a shame.
