I love this little course. It's a laid back place to play 9 holes and it's a lot less intimidating for beginners. It has all of the usual golf etiquette, well maintained greens and beautiful scenery but without the pretentious judgement that is often a deterrent for people just learning the sport. I never feel like I have to apologize for being new and I don't feel rushed, I have been playing for 3 years now and it has been a perfect place to practice.

Hidden gem of a course in the North country. 9 holes (looks like they are going to expand from the work in progress) well maintained fairways and greens. Was expecting a normal rural golf course with minimal maintenance, but was surprised to find that my assumptions were wrong. Went on a Wednesday morning with no tee time, got right out since there was hardly anyone there. None of the pressure you find at a normal course where it can be very busy. There is food available however I did not try it (heard its pretty good) and the pro-shop is minimal. There are a few portapotties around the course for use for facilities as well. I will definitely play here again!

Great nine holes course. Greens rolled true. Challenging tee shots. Traps definitely need attention or should turn them into grass bunkers. Definitely would play again.

Difficult to give them more than 2 stars. The course is challenging, very narrow. They haven't touched the sand traps at all. Fairways and greens are probably a 4 star. The OLD MAN inside is a miserable person. Argued about how much cash we paid him. Finally, you might want to update your fees on your Facebook page. Looks like it's the Barracks or Adirondack next.

Ganienkeh Golf Course in upstate New York, near Altoona (about twenty minutes from Plattsburgh) is just HEAVENLY! Located in the hill country, just off of Military Turnpike(rt. 190)this beautiful Mohawk Nation property is 9 holes of sublime pleasure! And I say this after playing this course without making a single par. I did have 4 or 5 good chances at par, but couldn’t quite get her done. Anyhow, this course has a few easy holes, several fair to middling and three or four VERY DEMANDING HOLES. ALL are BEAUTIFUL! We even saw a gaggle (about 50 wild turkeys) beside the tee box on number 4! They were quite intelligent - they all took off into the woods when they saw us on the tee box! Before I forget, I must praise the young lady in the pro shop. As nice a person as you will find anywhere and her name is Chris! We paid $21 a piece for nine holes of golf (note: Ganienkeh Golf Course only accepts cash and they do have an ATM on site.) and that includes a cart. We started play at 1 in the afternoon and NEVER had anyone in front of us or pushing us from behind! We didn’t get a chance to try the advertised menu above the pro shop at the 19th hole - will do that on our next visit - which will be soon! I read the reviews about the cranky, old guy in the pro shop before visiting Ganienkeh, don’t know if it was his day off or if he is gone, but I would not let his presence or absence stop you from experiencing this GREAT golf course. I am sorry that I babble on but don’t let that stop you either. Head out to Altoona and ENJOY! Ciao!
