Essex County is one of New Jersey’s heritage clubs, delivering a classic private-club experience with a serious, traditional golf identity. The course tends to reward controlled driving and precise iron play, with holes that gradually build pressure as you move through the round. Many greens are defended in ways that make placement and distance control especially important, so “close enough” often isn’t close enough. It’s a course that feels designed for repeat play: the more you learn pin positions and preferred angles, the more strategic the round becomes. If you appreciate established club golf with a strong competitive backbone, Essex County stands out.

Bethpage Black meets Wild Turkey. ECCC is my new favorite course in North NJ! A true test with elevation changes, tiered greens and steep green side bunkers - challenging, but not unfair. Dining service and food quality was fantastic, as well.

Fantastic country club, easily one of the best in the state. The golf course is regularly rated among the top 10 in the region, and deserves to be ranked even higher. The back nine is commonly referred to as having the best back nine in the state (behind Pine Valley). The front nine, while a bit more scorable, has some great holes as well. The conditions are always pristine with long rough, tightly mown fairways, firm and fast greens.

A beautiful and challenging golf course. Their website has a detailed outline of the holes layout. Read it before playing here...it will save you some strokes...
