Rumson is a classic Monmouth County private club with a traditional Shore-area golf culture and a course that rewards steady, disciplined play. The layout tends to emphasize precision off the tee, because positioning sets up your approach angles and determines how aggressive you can be into greens. It’s not a course you typically overpower—good scores come from clean iron play, smart misses, and confident putting. The setting feels established and refined, with that understated “old club” rhythm where the golf is the centerpiece. Short game matters here, especially when greens are firm and pins are tucked. If you enjoy traditional private golf near the Shore corridor with a quietly demanding test, Rumson fits perfectly.

Played on Nov. 26. Course has great "bones" but they recently aerated the greens and didn't properly top dress the greens with sand... so they were bumpy and inconsistent( hence 3 stars). They are renovating the clubhouse, so that's exciting news. Overall, solid course.

Grounds are very nice, but the spectator dress code is ridiculous. They wouldn't let me on wearing denim jeans, and wouldn't let on my father either. We were both watching my daughter, and made me put on men's XL rain pants over my jeans so I could go on the course.
