Description
Arcola is a private North Jersey stalwart in Paramus with deep “Golden Age” roots and a serious championship vibe. The club dates to 1909, with the original design credited to Herbert Haydn Barker and involvement by Walter Travis in the club’s early era. Over time, the course evolved through various changes, but it still carries that traditional, member’s-club feel—tight targets, thoughtful bunkering, and strong putting surfaces. It’s known for rewarding controlled ball-striking and disciplined course management rather than simply swinging hard. The setting is classic Bergen County: mature trees, strategic corridors, and a routing that demands you hit the correct side of fairways to access pins. For players who love crisp, fast greens and a “proper” private-club test, Arcola fits the bill.
