Pine Barrens is a modern, daily-fee standout that leans into a rugged, links-inspired style with big scale and dramatic shaping. The layout spreads across open terrain with native grasses and bold contouring, creating a feel that’s more “golf trip” than local muni. Wind can be a major factor, and the course rewards players who control trajectory and pick smart angles rather than simply aiming down the middle. Wide fairways can look forgiving, but the wrong side often leads to awkward approaches into greens that demand distance control. It’s the kind of round where you’ll use the ground—bounces, slopes, and run-outs—more than on typical parkland courses. If you want a memorable, modern NJ public round with personality, Pine Barrens is a top-tier pick.

A beautiful golf course! Always enjoyable to play. No houses to spoil the views, just a pleasure to be there. I was fortunate to be a member there for eight years before I retired to South Carolina. I played the course 960 times, many of those walking and carrying my bag.

Had Christmas party here. What a hidden gem. The food was unbelievable, pricey, but worth every penny. The staff was attentive and very pleasant. Warm and cozy atmosphere. What a pleasant experience. And very pretty decorated for Christmas.
