Description

Cape May National is a Jersey Shore-area standout that feels like a destination course—polished, memorable, and built to host everything from casual tee times to big group outings. The layout leans into a modern, championship style: generous scale, strong hazards, and holes that build pressure as the round goes on. You’ll usually find that it rewards confident, committed swings—pick a line, trust the yardage, and execute—because indecision tends to bring the trouble into play. The course is also known for providing “signature-hole” moments, where visuals and strategy combine into shots you’ll talk about afterward. It’s a great option for a golf trip because it’s fun for mixed groups: higher handicaps have room to play, while better players can chase a real score. If you want a Shore round that feels premium from the first tee to the last putt, Cape May National fits that bill.

$120 for a round of golf. The greens were punched over 2 weeks earlier and they were in terrible shape. Bouncy and overly sanded. Of course no mention before the round about the greens. The golf cart has not been cleaned in what must be a couple of weeks if not months. I just watched them run carts out as they came in. Not as much as a hose or clean out any garbage. The tee boxes were not in great shape. Spotty at best. The course lay out is not terrible and the course has the bones to be great. But at $120 a round i expect way more than what I got.

I really enjoyed playing this course. Very well designed holes with good risk/reward, but never punishing. Course was in great shape despite rain the night before. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Definitely worth playing if you're in the area.

Beautiful course, one of the best in the area. The biggest complaint, we had a 2:10 tee time which is fine it was the only one left that’s how busy it was, but to let 2 walkons in and put them between two foursomes and let them walk is totally absurd. We were moving along at a good pace until this happened and turned a nice round into almost a 6hr round. Totally unacceptable.

Had a group that played at this course 9/25, and while the course has a fun layout, we encountered a couple of issues that really detracted from the experience — both centered on communication and customer value. First, we had three tee times at 12:50, 1:00, and 1:10 PM. The course offers afternoon rates for tee times after 1:00 PM, but this policy was never communicated to us. It was only through our own conversation on-site that we discovered it. When I later called the clubhouse to discuss this, I was told that we got lucky that only 5 out of 10 players paid full price — even though by their own policy, it technically should have only been 3. Our frustration wasn't about the discount itself, but rather the lack of transparency and inconsistent application of the policy. It’s hard to understand how a group with two-thirds of its players teeing off after the discount time could still end up mostly paying full price. If we had been told this when booking (you have to call to book large parties) we would have simply booked the tee times slightly later to avoid the higher price. Second, the course conditions were not as advertised. The greens had been recently aerated, which is totally understandable for maintenance this time of year. The problem was, again, the lack of communication. There was no mention of aeration when we booked, when we verified, or when we checked in. We only noticed a small sign that was confusingly dated for a later day, and found out on the first hole that the greens were aerated. When I called to provide feedback, I was told that only the front 9 were aerated two weeks prior. That did not match what we saw on the course, where the conditions suggested seemingly very recent aeration on ~15/18 holes. No discount or courtesy was offered due to the timing, but in our opinion, the greens clearly had not had enough time to recover, which affected play significantly. We would have appreciated a heads-up and maybe a slight discount, which is pretty standard at other courses during aeration season. In the end, while the course itself has potential, our experience was undercut by poor communication and a general lack of customer value consideration. Upfront honesty about discount eligibility or course conditions would have made a huge difference. We had played this course multiple times, but don't think we'll be coming back for future trips.
