The course sits on flatter coastal terrain, but it stays interesting through narrow driving corridors, water hazards that are always in play, and holes that can change personality dramatically depending on the breeze. Yardage can feel secondary here—choosing the right club and flighting the ball properly often matters more than raw distance. It’s a strong “vacation round” because the atmosphere is relaxed, yet the course still asks you to hit real golf shots. When the wind is up, you’ll need to use knockdowns, controlled fades/draws, and smart targets to avoid big numbers. If you want a legitimate test that still feels like beach-town golf, Avalon delivers that mix.

On vacation for the last week. You have 2 choices for golf in Cape May County. Cape May GC or Avalon. They are virtually the same price for a round. I played both in the last 5 days. There is no comparison! Avalon GC has all the attributes of a top notch course. First, and most importantly, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Those at CMGC make you feel like you are doing them a favor for playing the course. I was a single playing with 3 others. They course maintenance staff was watering the greens during play. Okay, I understand the need for making sure greens stay in the best condition but, we had the watering guy in 4 FOUR greens. He didn’t stop nor was even caring about whatever noise he was making. It was distracting! Back to Avalon. Free tees and divot tools. The ranger asked if we were enjoying ourselves and gave his name. Course was in great condition! Avalon GC is my go to course in the cape!!!

I played this course as a single. I had a really positive experience with Mike and David with carts and starting me out. They fit me into a fully booked afternoon starting me on the back and timed my turn onto the front perfectly with another group. In regards to the course it was in great shape. Greens rolled true.

Had dinner last night with other friends in the restaurant. Foof/drinks and service were all exceptional. We were met by Kennedy (hostess) who always has a smile and a pleasant demeanor. She took us right to our table and got us seated. Lindsay K (waitress)met us, took our drink/food orders and served us very well. She did a great job.

I’ve been playing this course for 38 years and it’s never been better. Pace of play (June) has been great, conditions are solid and staff is amazing. Special shout out to Mike who always starts and finishes our day with a smile. My wife and I have gotten to know him and we are grateful for that. Thanks to all of the staff!!!!!!!

Played with my dad at this course for the first time. Was his father’s day gift. The service from dave and mike was fantastic. The course was in great condition. Would recommend to others looking to get out for vacation.
