Somerset Hills is one of New Jersey’s most revered private clubs, known for a classic Golden Age design and an elite, strategic test. The course rewards precision and creativity—angles matter, greens demand confident approach play, and recovery shots often require imagination rather than brute force. It’s the kind of layout where you can’t just aim at flags; you need to understand slopes, preferred landing areas, and the safest misses. Even strong players find the course quietly demanding, because the difficulty is built into subtle features that compound over 18 holes. The setting feels refined and timeless, matching the club’s long-standing reputation at the top tier of NJ golf. If you want private golf that’s truly architectural and strategic, Somerset Hills is a benchmark.

Perhaps the nicest course I’ve ever played in New Jersey. Five stars across anything you can measure at a golf club.

Somerset Hills is a selective golf club, that adheres to old school principals and etiquette. This club has seen a couple of U.S. Presidents play at it. It is a prestigious club to belong to...no doubt. The grounds are beautiful, and the facilities average. I think for most, it does not offer everything that a family would be looking for. That said, it depends on what your looking for; rubbing shoulders with potential business, or having family fun.

Continuing to climb higher and higher in the top US 100 rankings and spot on. 2nd best Jersey course behind PV. Described as 2 different nines, but not completely accurate as 10,17, and 18 have a similar feel and on the same side as the front. Maybe a few okay holes on the front, but the green complexes are second to none. Beautiful course and old school club house and locker room. The grass tennis courts to the left of one and right of 9 look better than the golf course. Jealous of members there.
