18 handicap, muni course player here. Visited here in the dead of offseason and the quality of the course is still astonishing, almost the purest greens I’ve ever played on. Course is challenging but forgiving so can definitely be enjoyed by all. If you’re used to local courses, the staff might be overwhelming. They are amazing, but I’m just not at all used to the red carpet treatment they rolled out for us. My only regret is not getting to see it in the spring during full bloom, since I’m only in the area for a short time. If you’re thinking about splurging on a fancy round, this is the place

The Preserve in Vancleave, MS is hands down the best course in the state. Designed by Jerry Pate, it’s 18 holes of pure golf set on more than 200 acres surrounded by natural wetlands and native habitat, which gives it a one-of-a-kind setting. The layout is challenging but fair, with strategic bunkering, wetland carries, and greens that reward good shots without being overly punishing. The conditions are consistently excellent—lush fairways and smooth greens that make every round feel top-tier. The facilities are first class too, with great practice areas and a clubhouse that makes the experience complete. It’s not the cheapest round you’ll find in Mississippi, but for the quality of golf, the scenery, and the overall experience, it’s worth every penny. The Preserve isn’t just the best in Mississippi—it’s a course you’ll remember long after you’ve walked off 18. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Great experience at The Preserve! This is a fun and playable golf course. Layout is thoughtful and interesting, and the conditions were very good during my mid-August round. The greens had been punched about a month prior and were really rounding into shape. A very fun golf course from the whites, but I did feel that the difficulty probably did not live up to the 132 slope. I imagine it could be much trickier with faster greens. That is fine with me, however, I feel like more often than not golf courses are too hard to be fun these days. I will definitely go back to The Preserve. Top-notch facilities and the nicest staff anywhere. It is an easy drive from the Beau Rivage, and would pair nicely with a stop for lunch at Butcher Baker in Ocean Springs on the way back to Biloxi.

I’m a new golfer. I want to play nice courses but I’m not comfortable enough with my skills yet to want to be put in a group. I arrived at the preserve just to get a hat from the pro shop. When purchasing the hat, Jim behind the counter asked how my round was. I told him I didn’t play cause I didn’t want to be put in a group since I was a new golfer. I wanted to play but I didn’t. He told me they weren’t busy today and i could play alone now if i wanted. So i got some rental clubs and hit the course. The course was incredible and the people I encountered working there were all incredibly nice. This place is definitely worthy of all the praise that it gets. Can’t wait to come back in town to play again. The only disappointment I had with the place was I had heard you can see gators there and I never saw one. But it was still an unbelievable experience. P.S.: Sorry I misplaced the head cover on the rental putter.
