Description

Live Oaks is a semi private favorite for the Jackson metro with a classic 1969 John F. Stahl design. The routing moves through live oaks and pines with gentle elevation changes and reachable par 5s. From the tips it plays about 6,681 yards at par 72. USGA figures generally list the course around 71.1/124 for rating/slope-challenging enough for low caps but welcoming to newer golfers. A full driving range and a lively clubhouse scene (including a popular restaurant) make it a complete golf day.

I recently played a round at Live Oaks Golf Club near Jackson, MS, and had a pleasantly satisfying experience overall. The course is an 18-hole, semi-private layout designed by John F. Stahl and has been around since 1969. It stretches across 130 beautiful acres dotted with majestic live oak trees that elevate the scenic appeal of every hole . The layout is playable and enjoyable, with Bermuda grass greens that were in great shape during my visit . What stood out most was the welcoming atmosphere—the staff were friendly, and it felt like a community—a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the game . After your round, you can also grab a bite at Roosevelt’s Restaurant right in the clubhouse, or enjoy the bonus amenities like pool access and event facilities like The Reed House . That said, it’s not perfect. Some fairways were thin or patchy, and a few sections felt overgrown. Cart paths could use some upkeep too . For value, it's a great golf course. I will definitely be coming back!

From the moment we arrived it was made clear. We were not welcome. The lack of golfers playing on Saturday at 10am could be attributed to college football, but most likely others have had the same poor experience. While facilities are being upgraded a temporary clubhouse was in use at the pool. The cart paths are terrible, and each hole has a grounds under repair area. No public water fountains and a strict no cooler policy should be noted. The greens are in fair condition. The carts GPS system was down and there was a wedding which closed the back nine at hole 12. None of this would have been problematic had anyone told us ahead of time. The staff laughed about the conditions and mocked the price to play. Most aggregious was the fact that a member of our group was hit by a golf ball while on the #10 teebox. The ball was hit through a worn range net by someone warming up before their round. The day was a disappointment on many levels. I would not recommend this course to anyone.

Very enjoyable round of golf. Course layout was great. Distances and fairway markers hopefully will be added in the future. Course map is needed GPS has not been updated yet for new layout. Club house and resturant new and nice. Bonus pool area for the family.

Very nice course... mostly straight. Only criticism is that they don't have a driving range.

Not your moneys worth. I was very disappointed at the shape of the course. Backyard grass fairways along with the ankle deep rough that it’s impossible to even find your ball out of. I’m all up for a challenging course, but this was a neglected landscape and needs work to be close to what they charge. Greens were well maintained I’ll give them that, but definitely not worth 60$ a round considering what you get at other local courses for average 35/40$. Good lunch, but save your frustration and play another local course that’s properly groomed.
