Having lately completed the raising of our humble dwelling in Empire, we set forth to survey what has become our home course: Dunes’ Golf Club. What a fortunate discovery. The fairways are agreeable, the setting is handsome, and the whole enterprise possesses that rare quality of being welcoming without pretense. One encounters not the stiff ceremony of grand clubs, but rather neighbors, families, familiar faces, and fellow travelers of every golfing persuasion - each united in the noble and occasionally frustrating pursuit of a small white ball. The outward nine asks for steady navigation, with several fairways of a narrower pursuit that reward a well-placed shot and offer little mercy to the wandering eye. Then comes the shorter inward nine - a deceptively compact stretch where one may be tempted to grow bold. Such confidence is often punished by tighter, more demanding greens, where an approach that appears sound from afar may leave a man facing a most troublesome putt. Yet this is precisely the charm of the place: a course that is approachable without being too easy, neighborly without being ordinary, and full of enough clever tests to keep one returning with renewed resolve. To have such a course near our new home is a genuine joy. It is the sort of place where one may arrive for nine holes and leave having caught up with half the community. The Dunes is not trying to be something it is not; it is simply a fine, friendly course in a remarkable corner of Michigan. We consider ourselves exceedingly fortunate to call Empire home - and even more fortunate to call the Dunes our home course.

My friends and I have been playing here for years and it just keeps getting better. Nice wide secluded fairways, excellent carts, friendly staff and affordable. You owe it to yourself to to give it a try.

Definitely fills a void. My wife and I play this course every summer and enjoy the very friendly staff, fair fees, and somewhat challenging narrow fairways. Did I mention the scenic views?

Golfed here twice last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. You can tell the course is well loved and everyone was very friendly. The trees that line the fairways are very generous, they kept kicking my husbands ball back to him. I don't think we lost one ball either time.

Reasonably priced course, in pretty good condition. Front 9 has wide fairways while the back 9 has some more narrow fairways. Not really long at 5700 yards, but still challenging with some holes needing an iron off the tee.
