Description
The South Course, opened in 1969 and also crafted by Pete Dye, complements the North with greater topographic variety, rolling terrain on the front nine, and a flatter but more strategic back nine. Known for its abundance of bunkers—over 120 scattered across the layout—it blends dramatic elevation changes, mature tree corridors, and contoured bentgrass greens to create a versatile test. The South has hosted championship events, including the 1999 U.S. Senior Open, and contributed key holes to the 2017 Solheim Cup composite routing. More visually dynamic than the North, it mixes risk-reward opportunities with Dye’s characteristic demand for precision, offering golfers a varied and engaging round from start to finish.
