Classic old track with lush rolling hills and curved fairways. Great city course. Wish there was more space for the practice area. Great bar and pro shop inside

Waveland Golf Course is truly one of the most unique and historic golf experiences you’ll find in Iowa. Dating back to 1901, it’s incredible to play a course with that much history while still offering a fun and challenging round today. We had a great experience during our visit. Even with recent rain and it being early in the season, the course was in solid shape — fairways were well maintained, greens rolled true, and the bunkers were playable. For a municipal course, the overall conditions and value are excellent. What really stands out is the layout. There’s a surprising amount of elevation change throughout the course, along with several blind shots and tight tee boxes that force you to think your way around. It’s not a grip-it-and-rip-it kind of course — you’ll need to be strategic and precise. One recommendation: if it’s your first time playing, try to go with someone who knows the course. The blind shots and routing can be tricky, and having a little local knowledge makes the experience even better. The clubhouse and pro shop add to the charm with a very classic, historic feel, and the staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. This is third course I played since visiting Iowa. Lots of hills, slopes and blind spots. Do yourself a favor and check out the layout before you start 😁. Played here Jun 4, 2026 and the overall condition of the course is outstanding. Plan on playing it again if I decide to visit Iowa in the near future. 👍

The course is in great shape! However, that was all ruined when our group of 3 got paired with a 4th. I normally don't have a problem with, in fact I assume that's what will happen when you book for 3. What shouldn't happen is being forced to ride in a cart with someone I don't know and then that person burns cancer stick after cancer stick during the round and I'm forced to risk lung cancer during a round of golf. They had at least 20 carts not being used so we should have been granted an extra cart.

The course is in really great shape for middle of May. Oldest public golf course West of the Mississippi. Very busy. If you haven't played it, you should!
