Zollner is a beautiful golf course in a beautiful setting. At 6300 from the tips, it is a little short by championship standards, but there are a lot of memorable holes. And the rates are quite reasonable, almost municipal course rates! The quality and the cleverness of the course is apparent from the first tee. It requires a tee shot through a cut-back forest - you have about 50 yards of space between the trees. A stunning start to a great course. The second hole is a medium par 3, with all kinds of trouble to the RIGHT, and pot-like bunkers. And the interest keeps going from there. E.g., #8 features a large hill to the left off the tee (hooks are GONE), and a swamp to the right (280 yard slices are gone, too). There are lots of elevation changes (well, lots for Indiana). There are almost no homes anywhere to be seen (a rarity these days). #10 overlooks the Trine University athletic fields - that's the most buildings you'll see on that course. There apparently is a shooting range nearby. They were rapid firing something during my round! There is a driving range, but, uh, it kinda sucks: mostly mats, the landing area is downhill, and there is an ugly, algae-filled pond on the side. This is really intended to be a place where you warm up before playing, as opposed to a destination, in and of itself. They have inexpensive baskets of balls (like 25) - the right amount for your warm up. (The pro claims that theirs is the only open driving range in the county, that is, you can hit balls there even if you aren't playing the course.) If you live within, say, 50 miles of this course (e.g., Fort Wayne), you NEED to play Zollner. (5 stars? Really? Well, it's not Pebble Beach Golf Links (see photo), nor is it Pinehurst or Augusta National. But sometimes expectations are so greatly exceeded that you just gotta give out all 5 available stars. And it is 20 to 30 times less expensive than those true 5-star courses.) Edit 2024: There is very little difference between the blue tees (back) and the white tees. The "senior" (green) tees are just a little forward of the white tees - they share a tee box on most holes. The red tees are, however, well forward of the others. Edit: I took this photo of the Zollner divot repair tool before teeing off on #18 at Pebble Beach.

Zollner Golf Course is a very enjoyable track with beautiful scenery, especially on the holes that run through the woods. The fairways are in good condition, and the layout offers a nice mix of open and tree-lined challenges. Greens are smooth and fair, giving a good test without being frustrating. Staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome right from the start. Overall, a great value and a course worth playing if you’re in the area.

Great course and well worth the fees and drive. I found the course to be challenging yet approachable Tee boxes were nice but not much of a difference between many of the women's tee boxes and green (?). Holes with water was a bit of an eye sore because of green algae. Sand traps (I was in 2) were very well kept. There were grounds crews out raking many of the traps as we played, which was nice maintenance, but we had to wait on them to move along before hitting. Greens were in very good shape and slight fast. Definitely considering a membership for the coming year. Staff was very friendly and food was delicious following our very hot round of golf. Complementary bottles of water was an added bonus. We didn't use the driving range, but looked to be rather small. Practice green was in good shape and definitely gave you an idea of the greens.

The golf course was in outstanding shape. All the staff were great, friendly and helped full. The course was beautiful as always. I try to travel here once a year to play.
