Description

Lely Resort Golf & Country Club's Mustang Course in Naples is a player-friendly public championship 18-hole par-72 layout (up to 7,217–7,230 yards, slope 141, rating 75.2–75.3) designed by Lee Trevino in 1996, emphasizing fair challenges with wide, flat fairways, spacious bailouts, 12 sparkling lakes, and large accessible greens that invite bump-and-run approaches while testing strategy on the demanding finishing stretch (the "Snake Pit" holes). Trevino's philosophy shines through in this enjoyable yet thoughtful design, with bunkers that are numerous but not overly penal and water often lateral for recovery options. Public tee times, top-notch conditioning, and shared clubhouse amenities (driving range, restaurant) make it a Naples favorite. It complements the Flamingo Island Course for variety. Mustang provides high-quality, approachable championship golf on the Gulf Coast.

The accommodations at Lely are excellent as is the on premises tavern and grill, food and cocktails were terrific. If you stay in the GreenLinks villas you get discounted greens fees and tee times through the greenlinks office in well in advance of playing. Don’t book online. Paid $190 to play flamingo and mustang. Flamingo was outstanding, scenic, beautifully maintained course. I’d give it 5 stars. Very large bunkers everywhere, very target golf off both off the tee and on approach shots with carries over bunkers to the greens. Mustang was not worth the price, they should charge less. It was in decent shape but not at all the equal of flamingo. Have played much better courses for less than Mustang. Pace of play on both courses was good.

2 great courses; the Flamingo being my personal pick of the 2. Traps among the best I've played out of anywhere. Greens were very smooth and quick, however lacking in movement and interest.

Flamingo: A 5-star course! Greens are in very good conditions with undulations on acceptable speeds. The front-9 is more about lakes while the back-9 is with pine tree lines. There are plenty of huge fairway bunkers strategically placed to make the fairways narrower to increase difficulties. There are also rolling hills to make the course more interesting in S. Florida. Mustang: At best a 4-star course! Some greens and fairways do have burned spots. These spots on the greens do not affect putting; in fact, the green speeds are very good too. This is a much simpler course with wide-open fairways than the Flamigo. It's recommended to check for aerification schedules before making reservations in the summer. The pictures are mostly from the Flamingo course except the last one with a par3 from the Mustang.

Great golf course. Very well taken care of course. Bunkers are everywhere making you either play very conservative or aggressive. Greens rolled inconsistent. Speeds seemed to change every hole and the sand would bounce the ball around. Still highly recommend playing but take the greens with a grain of salt. Or I guess sand

Both Flamingo and Mustang are nice resort courses, with average layouts and quality greens, but they are way overpriced at $340+ (March 2025). Also, the starter and rangers are quite rude and act like it's a privilege to play there. Overall, the customer service is definitely lacking and the value for the high price is poor.
