Mountain Lake Country Club is a legendary private community in Lake Wales, founded in 1915 as Florida's first private resort community, with the 18-hole course designed by Seth Raynor (partially opened 1917, second nine 1921) on sand ridges with subtle manipulation for classic Golden Age features like stacked greens, strategic bunkering, and close-cropped Bermuda surfaces. The par-72 layout (around 6,685 yards, slope 135) embodies timeless design with elevation changes, natural beauty, and a millionaire's winter retreat heritage shaped by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.'s landscape vision. Ongoing restorations (including recent work by Tyler Rae to "polish the gem") preserve its historic integrity while enhancing playability. The club offers a serene, elite atmosphere with premium facilities and exclusivity in rolling Central Florida terrain. Members enjoy one of the state's most storied and highly regarded private courses, blending heritage with outstanding golf in a peaceful, upscale enclave.

Terrific classic golf experience, an original Seth Raynor design in central Florida. The service, conditions and the historical nature of the site gives a visit to Mountain Lake a lasting one.

Typical Seth Raynor golf course which was very fun to play; never disappointed on a Raynor layout. Greens were in great shape & rolled perfectly; good speed. The course conditions were probably a 7 out of 10; tee boxes were beat up but were being redone this summer. The staff was some of the nicest people I have ever meet; excellent service and Colony House was a blast from the past. If invited back I would definitely accept!

Famous course. Private. Ranked as in if the best in Florida. But in reality course is nothing special and not very good conditions. Facilities are very tired. And THEY DONT SERVE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AT ALL. And no snack cars at the course
