Description

Farmingbury Hills in Wolcott is a public 18-hole course set on rolling terrain that creates a surprisingly varied and athletic round. The course tends to feature meaningful elevation change, so club selection can be tricky and the same yardage can play very differently depending on wind and lie. It’s designed to be fun and playable, but it can quickly become challenging if you miss fairways and have to recover from uneven stances. Because it’s a public facility with a strong local following, it’s also common to see leagues and regular groups that give it a lively, community-driven feel. In short: Farmingbury Hills is a scenic, undulating public 18 that rewards controlled ball flight and smart course management.

Visited 11/13/2025. Early tee time, cold and windy day. I always love being out and golfing despite weather. I was pretty unhappy with the course conditions. Honestly, they were terrible and either rates should be lowered extremely or the course shut down for the rest of the year for maintenance. I understand winter is coming and that courses must be maintained, including aerating the greens, but jeez, it was really bad and not maintained well. I had a better experience a few months ago but it still wasn't 5-star. I'm being generous with a 2-star review with those two combined just because of how poor the course was this last time. I will absolutely return next spring or summer and give it another go and update accordingly. The positives are that the clubhouse is cozy and the staff in there have been kind both times. The course has a unique, fun layout as well. Hole #6 is a ton of fun (or incredibly stressful depending on your day.), and Hole #4 is interesting as well. The grounds crew definitely has attitude issues - yelled at a friend that he was OB (despite no clear markings), which was disappointing because my friend is so unbelievably nice to everyone. He promptly apologized and threw it into the fairway, but it's just really not necessary to treat paying customers like that, especially when your course is awful.

Course is challenging but a little easier with some local knowledge. Course is actually 9 holes but with diffent tees for the front and back nine also one hole has a different green. One holes goes from a par to 5 on the back side. Course is in need of a little TLC due to the drought. Also there a more broken tees scatter on every tee box than I have ever seen. I will go back. 👍

I went to the course with my husband to simply ride along in the cart and watch him play. To my surprise, they charged me the full golf rate, even though I wasn’t playing… I’m pregnant and not much of a golfer. My husband golfs almost every weekend at different courses, and this is the first time we’ve ever encountered a policy like this. I could understand it at an upscale, well-maintained course, but for a second-rate course with dry fairways and large dead spots, it just feels unreasonable. We won’t be returning.

I rarely write reviews! I would give zero stars if I could. Booked tee time today. Have played here many times and took my daughter who was not playing. Usually play there because price is fairly low with a cart. Not today! Raised price to $40 for 9 holes and told me I had to pay the full $40 to have my 11 year old daughter just ride in the same cart with me! When i stated i have done this many times. I was told its a new policy this year. Got my money refunded and left. Way over priced now and the course is not in the best shape. Can pay $3 more and play at much nicer courses that won't charge full price for someone to sit in a cart. Will never play there again!

I definitely had a memorable experience at this course. I called in and booked a tee time for 350 this Friday night. Pro shop told me try to get off no later than that because there is a league starting at 4. My friend and I came in a little early and actually teed off at 330 to avoid interfering with the league. After we hit our drives on the 4th hole, a woman and man who were playing a couple groups behind us came up to us and told us we were going to play with the two-some behind us or “the pro shop is that way” and pointed to her right. We asked who they were because it was very aggressive and they demanded we listen to them. They just wanted to argue so we told them to mind their business and we are just trying to enjoy the night and there’s a huge line at every tee box because its a 9 hole course on a beautiful night. For context, there was a group of 8 that was a couple groups ahead of us lol. We aren't the problem and everyone on the course, except her, was aware of that. I honestly didn't care about the 8 person group holding everyone up because we were still having a good time and I knew this wasn't Sunday at Augusta National. The man and woman followed us down the hill and as we were crossing the street to the 4th fairway she tried stealing my bag out of the cart. When I went to get my bag back, she pushed me out of the way and then went to our cart and stole the keys lol. She then said she works there! Maybe she was off shift because she was playing? Not sure. When we asked why she put her hands on me and tried stealing my golf bag, the man apologized on her behalf and said she’s just upset and she took it too far. But, they then left with our keys to the cart. In fairness, the man wanted to give the keys back but she refused. Luckily, I was able to keep my clubs and they didn’t steal them. The group who she demanded we play with came by and asked if we were okay which was nice and offered to be witnesses if we wanted to call the police. We decided it wasn’t worth it, but appreciated their support. We walked up the hill to the pro shop and when I described the situation to them they did not seem shocked. They apologized and gave us a full refund and apologized that the ranger wasn’t working today. So at least we know they weren’t the ranger lol. Safe to say I won’t be going back. But, an employee conduct training may be in order if they are okay with employees putting their hands on customers. The course had great views, the greens were great, price was excellent. But, whoever that off-duty “employee” was ruined it for us so I thought it was important to share for future customers. Just avoid the place because it’s not worth having to deal with a person like that.
