Description

E. Gaynor Brennan is a municipal 18-hole course in Stamford that serves as a cornerstone of public golf for lower Fairfield County. The course is built to accommodate high play volume, so the routing is practical and the experience is geared toward getting golfers on and around efficiently. You’ll find a mix of holes that are gettable and others where the smart play is simply avoiding big numbers, especially if you’re out of position off the tee. Its biggest value is accessibility: for Stamford and nearby towns, it’s one of the easiest ways to play a full 18 without private-club barriers. If you want a straightforward public round with a true local-muni vibe in a densely populated area, Brennan is exactly that.

Wanted to have a good experience golfing here with other beginners in my group, but unfortunately it was not - it was very stressful and unpleasant, not how I wanted a sport of leisure to be. We were late because of significant traffic on the roads and they did hold the tee time for us which was nice but at the expense of then having their ranger berate us incessantly and then hover around our group and eventually kick us out of the golf course. I appreciate the refund so no harm no foul, but the attitude wasn’t necessary. And the reason given was that “all golf courses would be like that”. Well guess what, I went to Tashua knolls further north and they were not nearly as rude - we were treated with much more patience by the staff and allowed to play and have people go ahead if they needed to. I appreciate you want to keep the pace of play, but you should treat all of your players with respect - if you choose to let people be late you can’t then be mad at them for that. Frankly, it just felt like we weren’t welcomed there - so will not recommend for new players, take your business elsewhere.

Nice public course, nice 19th Hole pub too. Greens are in excellent shape. On the fairways some bare spots with no seed or soil prep but overall good.

Underrated course. A real test that will surprise you. Staff here is amazing really nice people. The restaurant Zodys is also a great place to eat or drink after 18. A course not a lot of people know about but is always in great shape in the spring/summer. Only thing to complain about is I don’t get enough birdies greens aren’t as straight as they look. Pace of play is surprisingly fast here most of the time. Usually done in under 3:30 sometimes even 2:45 (gotta be a slow weekday for 2:45 to happen though)

I’m writing this extremely disappointed in my experience at E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course in Stamford. As an employee of the city, this location was recommended to me by my male colleagues and friends. I must say this place is not welcoming to new golfers, especially women. My friend and I showed up with a t time and ready to play, even having our own clubs, we were immediately met with misogynistic comments and disrespect. The environment as a whole was extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. To further this the course warden/ranger made multiple sexiest comments and then proceeded approach us multiple times making rude comments and interrupting our golf despite the fact that we were not holding anyone up and followed all the rules. Everyone we encountered was rude, the only individual who even smiled at us was the woman working the bar cart. It got to the point where my friend and I became so uncomfortable we left. I would also like to share the way we were treated reflects poorly on the city of Stamford as it is one of the city’s public golf courses. An institution that receives funding and resources from the city of Stamford should not be so blatantly and comfortably sharing sexist attitudes or mistreating paying costumers. I would never recommend this course to anyone with an ounce of joy or a woman. I’m saddened to say that after this experience I will never return to this establishment or recommend to beginner golfers or any women.
