Skungamaug River is a public course in Coventry that offers a relaxed, local round with a strong rural Connecticut feel. The layout is designed to be playable and fun, emphasizing steady golf and smart targets rather than overwhelming players with forced carries or constant penalty. It’s the kind of course that works well for regular play—leagues and repeat rounds—because it feels fair and the strategy becomes clearer the more you see it. Seasonal conditions can influence difficulty a lot, especially if fairways firm up and approach shots release more than expected. Overall, Skungamaug River is dependable everyday public golf: welcoming atmosphere, solid variety, and a course that’s enjoyable for a wide range of skill levels.

Great place to get out and play. 18 hole public course with a fantastic little beer tavern to boot. The staff and pro are always very friendly and make accommodations for short notice tee times. The driving range is full grass, which is good and bad depending on who is using it. It would be nice to have a mat area for those who do not play often.

A group of us play here in a charity tournament every June. This is a hidden gem of a course. Well maintained. Clean. Quiet. Friendly staff. If I didnt live 45 minutes away, I would absolutely play here more often. Not too many sand traps. BUT enough water hazards to make up for it. A good mix of wide open fairways with some narrow ones where you MUST hit the fairway.

Great day at the skunk. Greens were in great shape. Beautiful fall day in October.

What a find! Didn't know it existed until PGA HOPE Foundation sponsored us there. Beautiful, well-maintained course. Manicured greens. Friendly, helpful staff. Gas carts in clean, well-serviced condition. Old New England stone walls marked some of the borders. Nice touch.
