Date Played: July 12, 2026 Check-in was easy enough, but finding the driving range and first tee was surprisingly confusing. The first employee I dealt with seemed friendly, but that was about where the positives ended. The first cart I was assigned wouldn't move. After several minutes of cycling the key and switching between forward and reverse, it finally started. When I returned to report the issue, I was reluctantly given another cart that was also held together with duct tape and had brakes that barely worked. The driving range wasn't much better. It felt more like hitting from the rough, and the range balls appeared to be a random collection of worn, mismatched balls gathered from around the course. I understand the course being dry. Colorado is in a drought, and one of the state's largest wildfires was burning about 20 miles away during my round. Dry conditions are understandable. What isn't understandable are broken carts, destroyed cart paths, shattered tee signs, weed-filled bunkers, and tee boxes that often lacked proper markers. Some tee boxes had only a single painted rock marking them. The bunkers were especially comical. Most were a mixture of dirt, pebbles, weeds, and a little sand. I honestly don't know why they still have bunker rakes. There was very little actual bunker to rake. The rough cart paths made for a brutal ride, and I was sore the next day despite playing golf almost every weekend. Everywhere I looked there seemed to be another sign of deferred maintenance. After the round, I interacted with a different employee in the clubhouse who was exactly what other reviews warned about: rude, dismissive, and condescending. Sumo has a layout with potential and beautiful views, but the overwhelming impression is years of neglect and poor maintenance. You can excuse dry conditions. You can't excuse a lack of pride in the facility. I won't be back. Do yourself a favor and travel to Pueblo to play Elmwood or Walking Stick.

Played at 8:00am on July 4 weekend and had the place to ourselves. Conditions weren’t perfect, but much better than the reviews here made it seem. Sure, this place has seen better days, but it’s a really fun course with character and a great design. Driving in the golf cart felt like an off-road adventure. This was one of the most fun and unique rounds I’ve played in awhile, and I’m glad I didn’t let the bad reviews scare me off. If you’re in the area, it’s worth checking out - even if just for the story.

You can't judge a book by its cover... you have to open the book. Today I did just that by actually trying Sumo Golf versus just accepting others' reviews. The greens were amazing and the holes were great... yes in between is dry, but the course is a great bargain given a lower price to play 18 holes with a cart... and its totally worth a try.

I went golfing today with my family. I always choose sumo specifically when I bring my 4 year old and other family members that are still learning. We let at least 7 groups pass us on a 9 hole game. When we were on the 9th hole the "owner" came to tell us to hurry up. I expressed that I felt that they were over booked and that we were letting people pass. He didn't listen and told me that my 4 year old can't play, even though I told them that he was going too prior to entry. When going back to the club house the front desk lady showed us that they were booking 4-8 people per 15 minute slot. The grass is hardly maintained
