We are in Cortez from Denver with our kids baseball team. Have never been to the area before. Love the area and the people. None more than Nancy the owner of South 40 Golf. We brought our entire high school team to play 9 nine holes. Nancy and her husband could not have been more welcoming. They built, maintain and operate the course by themselves. They are very proud of it, and well they should be. The experience was one of the best I have had in recent memory. If you are a golf purist, this is not for you. Its for people who want a pleasant experience. And if the owners happen to be there to greet you, spend a moment and chat. Perfect spot for social distanced activity. Nancy is very mindful of this and reminded our players as well. Thank you Nancy for a perfect afternoon. I will not forget it.

Funky cool. Bring lots of old golf balls. We were the only ones on the golf course. I used my chipper on the greens my wife used her putter. Make sure you pick up a scorecard which they leave Ramada as you'll need it to find a couple of the holes. Fun time and cool scenery.

Good value driving range but the golf course needs some attention. I'm an avid golfer and was excited at a 9 hole executive course near where I was staying. However, this is a pretty modest offering that appears to be entirely self serve. I had read you needed to bring dollar bills for the range machine so I stopped at a gas station on the way. The range is well marked with about a half dozen practice mats. There's a beautiful view of the mountains behind the range and the range was empty at 5:30PM on a a Monday. Unfortunately the ball dispenser stopped working after two rounds so decided to try the 9 hole. This is clearly a passion project for its owner and it appears they maintain it themselves. This is probably very similar to what the links would have looked like in Scotland originally. The greens require a lot of precision as they're quite small. There are no bunkers or water to contend with but many tree obstructed views even from the tee boxes. I only saw one distance marker so you will need to rely on your experience to gauge distance. The rough is punishing and I'm convinced I lost a ball to a ground hog hole, Bill Murray was right. It's a little challenging to navigate the couse as there is not a lot of signage but I looked for the flags to get my bearings. For a low cost golf outing on a sunny day in the mountains it was great but make sure you arrive with the right expectations.

Excellent place for a laid back game of golf, greens are a little rough, but the course is easily walkable (since there’s no golf carts), and the price is right at $15 for 9 holes/$5 for the push cart. Bring the kids and just have fun!

Perfect course for my wife and I as we are just getting into golfing. Cheap fees, no crowds, great picnic spot halfway through. Don’t expect perfect greens and prepare to sacrifice some balls, but overall 10/10 for a casual walkable game. They also provide free “catty” service! He was very helpful.
