The golf course is good, it’s not great, with a lot of potential. The fairways need a lot of work but it seems to be the standard for most affordable golf courses around San Diego. The greens are in great shape. The back nine is fun to play! Some interesting layouts. The staff is friendly and helpful enough to get by. I will play it again if the opportunity presents itself.

Cottonwood has potential, but the overall course conditions were frankly horrible during my recent visit. The terrain is super dry, and the layout is so confusing and poorly marked that you can’t even identify where the next hole is without wandering around. On top of that, the bunkers are completely stiff. It feels like playing out of packed dirt or concrete rather than sand. The two major saving graces were the personnel and the greens. The staff working the grounds and clubhouse were top-tier, exceptionally friendly, and welcoming. Additionally, the greens themselves were in surprisingly great shape, rolling smooth and fast despite the surrounding fairways and rough looking completely burned out. Until management invests some serious attention into basic course maintenance, proper tee box/hole signage, and bunker care, it's really hard to justify a full round here despite how great the greens and staff are.

This is a really cool golf course. Is it perfect? No. But, I have yet to play a full size 18 hole course in the $40-$60 range that is. What is really cool is you see the remnants of what once was a very respectable golf course. If you are playing from the white or black tees, you will see some really well thought out teeing areas. Greens were firm and were pretty fast. Fairways were average for the price, with some expected dead and burnt out spots. Most bunkers were hard packed sand. And if you land in the rough be prepared to potentially not be in grass. Despite all this, i enjoyed the layout of the course and will be coming back. Also appreciate that many areas are clearly marked with white painted lines to denote ground under repair areas, so you don’t feel bad moving your ball. The staff was also very friendly. I highly recommend this golf course. Go try it out and have a great time!

I want to start by saying the greens were immaculate and the staff was genuinely kind and professional — because that’s where my praise ends. The conditions of this course were absolutely unacceptable. I’ve played plenty of rounds in my life, but the state of anything other than the greens and overall upkeep was embarrassing for a facility charging what they charge. It’s clear that maintenance is not a priority here. Please do not waste 84 dollars here. To make matters worse, the pace of play was a complete disaster. We were backed up hole after hole with no marshals stepping in to manage the flow. What should have been a 4-hour round turned into an endurance test. We took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get through the first three holes. The greens and the staff are the only reasons this isn’t a one-star review. Fix the course conditions. Fix the pace of play. Until then, I’ll be taking my business quite literally anywhere else.

One of my favorite courses in SD, great value, helpful and friendly staff, never seen anyone in a bad mood here. The course has a pretty forgiving layout, with a few challenging holes. The rough can be...pretty rough, but the fairways and greens are usually kept in good condition. If you've never played here, no matter your handicap, it's definitely worth a round.
