Founded in 1893, Burlingame Country Club is one of California's oldest private clubs and radiates old world charm under towering heritage oaks. The parkland course is modest in length but tight off the tee, with small, canted greens that place a premium on wedge control. Members cherish its unhurried pace and generational camaraderie many families have played here for decades. The understated clubhouse and caddie program reinforce a classic vibe. Burlingame is golf as a genteel social ritual rather than a show of flash.

A truly welcoming and beautiful mountain club. The golf course is perfectly groomed with gorgeous valley views, though the rough can be quite punishing if you miss the fairway. The staff and members are unpretentious and made us feel right at home from day one. Dinner at the clubhouse, especially the Wednesday buffet, is consistently delicious. I'm docking one star simply because some of the non-golf amenities can get a little crowded during peak season, but overall, it's a fantastic place to relax and play.
