This is a review of the Golf driving range from a perspective member. Following a redesign, the la costa club “was forced” to go with restricted Flight golf balls on their driving range. Their words:-). Why a club would invest tens of millions into upgrading their playing facility only to downgrade their practice facilities is beyond me. This is a problem that I’m seeing among hotel based for-profit type clubs. These places seem to be sacrificing golf to attract adjacent members/hotel with new ways to Further monetize spaces. There isn’t an equity golf club in the world that would’ve voted for spending $10M all while ruining their day-to-day practice facility . Special Note: the NCAA players won’t hit restricted balls; as nothing will ruin your golf swing faster than hitting a restricted flight ball repeatedly. Frankly, the rest of the club is nice. I truly feel for the existing membership whom must now deal with what is essentially a very poor management decision.

Played the South course after playing the North last year, WOW, what an embarrassment, where to start. Greens were very uneven for speed and most were very bumpy, fairways had many bare or dry spots throughout the course. But the overall condition is horrible compared to the north course and $200+ is a ripoff. If you can't stay and play the north, you should just skip it, the resort is great but this course is joke. Overall no general maintenance is being done.

Nice golf course with a number of homes surrounding the course. Decent amount of elevation change and a nice view of the mountains. Nothing particular difficult about the course; most of the fairways are pretty straight. Clubhouse has a nice view. Friendly staff. There was a cold ocean breeze on the day I played in April—be sure to bring a pullover.

Golfed there this past week on the south course. Course was rather rough around the edges with fairways and greens having bare spots and tee boxes needing a little love as well. Nice layout but living and playing in San clemente there are much nicer courses in my area for a fraction of the price. I could play twice here @ san Juan CC or San Clemente muni which is in better shape with a handful of holes with ocean views or Tijjeras creak. I guess if your looking for the total resort expirence this would impress but for golfing it falls short.
