They waited until my dad and I paid and got the golf cart set up to tee off on hole 1 to tell us we weren't welcome to play the course because we didnt have collard shirts. Then the man lied and said the sign says November 2025 when it only says it will be enforced starting November 1st. So Thank you for ruining this father son time.

I rarely leave reviews let alone negative reviews, but after nearly 30 years of playing at Kern River Golf Course, I felt compelled to share this experience. First, I want to make it clear that this review is not directed toward Jacque or the golf professionals. Jacque gave me my very first golf lesson when I was around seven years old and later became one of my assistant coaches in college. She has always represented this course with professionalism, and I have nothing but respect for her and many of the staff members I’ve gotten to know over the years. My concern is with the front desk elderly lady by the name of Kris. I arrived for a last-minute twilight tee time that a friend had booked after I got off work. I was wearing a plain, blank white T-shirt—nothing offensive or inappropriate. Kris immediately asked, in a very rude and confrontational tone, whether I had a collared shirt. I apologized and told her I honestly didn’t know that policy was being enforced and that I might have one in my truck. I explained that I had been coming to Kern River since I was a kid and asked if she could simply call Jacque or the golf professional to see if they would make an exception given the circumstances. Her response was, “I’m not going to do that.” I politely asked if she would at least try, and she again refused, telling me my options were to buy a collared shirt from the pro shop or go hit balls on the range. What frustrated me wasn’t the dress code itself. If that’s the policy, I respect it. It was the complete lack of customer service, empathy, and professionalism. I ultimately had to call my wife and ask her to drive all the way to the course just to bring me a collared shirt. Ironically, once I mentioned people I knew at the course, her attitude noticeably changed and she suddenly became much friendlier. That inconsistency left a bad impression. A few holes into the round, my buddy and I were talking about the interaction. Without me bringing it up first, he told me he had experienced a similar interaction with Kris over the phone when he called to ask about available tee times. According to him, she was just as rude during that conversation. While I can only personally speak to my own experience, hearing that made me wonder if this is a recurring issue rather than an isolated incident. I’ve supported this course for almost three decades because it’s been a special place to me. Jacque, if you see this, I do greatly apologize. I simply hope management addresses how customers are treated. Policies can be enforced without making people feel unwelcome, especially longtime patrons who have always supported the course.

Beginner friendly golf course. Nice greens, few fairway bunkers, low cut rough and no water hazards. Driving range is available and the pro shop staff are friendly and helpful. I played on a Friday morning. $50.50 for Green Fees + Cart $20 & $40 club rentals available

I absolutely love this course. It's close to home and it's a lot of fun to play. The staff are amazing and the food is too. The practice facility is top notch. Driving range, chopping area, 2 putting greens and a pitching/sand area. I play there about 2x a week. Club sandwich, bacon cheeseburger, patty melt or breakfast burrito. Trust me.

Best public course in Bakersfield. Beautiful scenery. Course is very well maintained. I have been playing for 5 years and have visited every public course in the area and this course is a birdie all the way. Club house is very clean and offers a good selection of equipment. Snack bars are another highlight. Most of the staff are great(there's always that one seed) but overall ver friendly and helpful. Parking is plenty full. So go ahead and treat yourself and book a round or just go hit some balls at the range. Enjoy!
