Description

Tres Rios, located near Goodyear, is a parkland style course originally built in the 1960s. The 6,900 yard, par 72 layout weaves along the Gila River corridor. Tree lined fairways and water hazards create a lush, non desert feel unusual for Arizona. It has been a host site for amateur and local professional tournaments. Facilities include a range, putting, and chipping greens.

I give this 5 stars for a couple of reasons. First off, the staff was incredible from the Golf Pro, Jake - to the Pro Shop Manager Matthew - and the starter Glen. Everyone was welcoming and made sure I had the best experience possible. The course itself had a fun layout, very walkable, and was overall a true test from the back tees. There are doglegs right and left demanding proper shot shapes. The par 3’s offered nice variety. The 15th was 215 yards playing dead into the wind. What a beast! The collection of par 5’s were fun as well all demanding different skills but reachable in two. The best part were the green complexes and surrounding areas. They were large, undulating, rolled true and fast, yet were receptive to well struck shots. The chipping runoff areas were impeccable and the sand bunkers were well placed and in great shape. They are clearly trying to build a next level facility, and I can’t wait to go back!

Probably the most frustrating round of my life. Conditions were solid enough. Simple enough lay out. But this course is missing proper signage. The prompts on the carts GPS helps a little but its easy to get lost. Especially the back 9. Holes 11 and 18 are on the same tee box with no distinguishing signage. 13 is tough to find. Easy to go to 15 or 16 and skip 13 & 14. Spend 20 minutes making sure we were on the right hole. Please get signage. I could help you if you would prefer. Wouldn't cost more than $1000 to do the entire course.

Have not played this course, since 2007; it was really going down hill at that time. Greens were in poor shape, and over run with Gophers. A couple of weeks ago, I played with a young man, worked at Tres Rios. He said the course was in good shape. I found the layout was the same, we had a Coyote greet us on the first hole. The Tee-box on #2, on the hill side was open, which i liked, but it was in rather rough shape. I do enjoy the view from that Tee-box. The greens were not bad, they were smooth and were a lot better than GCU's green, where I play a couple times a week. The price was good, $54.+, with cart and small bucket of balls, which is also better than GCU. I did not like the double starts, going out on #1 and #10 at the same time. We finished #9, 1 hour and 30 minutes and ran into a group going out on #10. So we went from having a 3 hour round to a 4 plus hour round. I'm not going back until they stop the double starts, or at least cut off the #10 start times before the front nine groups are turning the corner. Hope they keep improving.

Great staff, nice fairways, and beautiful layout with no homes in sight. The course is under new management and going through a transition from an "ok" golf course to a destination golf course. I can't wait until these folks get finished with their vision. The original course is in the best shape it's been in years and the new course has been marked out. If you haven't played it lately, I highly recommend giving it another shot. It will not disappoint.

Now called Junior National. Lots of work being done here taking out all the non native vegetation. Greens are as good as anywhere else in Phoenix, brand new Golf Carts. Once they get the site cleaned up and looking better this will be a solid 5/5. Wouldn’t hesitate to play again
