Description

Stonewall Resort’s Arnold Palmer course (Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort) is one of West Virginia’s premier public/resort golf experiences, built around lake views, elevation, and strong shot values. The routing uses the landscape beautifully—water and hillside contours shape strategy, and many holes demand committed lines and disciplined club selection. It’s playable from the right tees, but it can be a serious test when you stretch it out, especially on longer approaches into well-protected greens. The resort setting enhances the experience with a destination feel, making it a favorite for golf trips, tournaments, and multi-day stays. If you want “big-time West Virginia resort golf” with an iconic name attached, Stonewall’s Palmer course is a must-play.

The best rooms I have ever stayed in, slept like a baby first night, restaurant, conference room is convenient and accessible from inside without going outdoor. The most friendly people you will ever meet, cleanliness is surpurb, plenty of parking with drop off carport, valet parking in spring, summer and fall.

It's in a beautiful location and it's a nice place to get away for a relaxing time. The drinks are overpriced and food options are limited. Buffets are the best deal but these are ok at best and with nothing else around, I still wouldn't necessarily recommend them. You are better off getting a room with a mini fridge and bringing stuff for sandwiches. The food will be better and you will save yourself a ton of money. Have only stayed in the lodge, haven't stayed in the cabins. Customer service is hit and miss. All depends on the person you get. You can have a good experience or they can be absolutely terrible, it's rare I've had someone really great. The servers are all overworked and they will be sure to let you know it... usually repeatedly throughout your bar/restaurant stay. That said, knowing what we don't like, I know how to plan around it to make the stay better. I don't not recommend it, but if you have money for somewhere better, maybe try there first.

We had planned a one night stopover as the resort is easy access to the highway and would have everything we could need. We ended up extending our stay one night early to beat the weather, showing up very late in the evening Christmas Day. Staff were accommodating to the extra night and late check in was easy and quick, as they were expecting us. The room on the first floor was clean and comfortable, though it smelled odd, like it used to be a smoking room 30 years ago. Loved the couch to lounge on and the spacious bathroom. The tile grout could have used a little love, but the shower had good temperature and pressure. We could hear our neighbor singing next door, so not perfect for sound privacy. But we slept well and watched some tv without any problems. We took advantage of our extra time there, taking a walk around the trails and spending some time at the pool. The pool was warm, great for December weather, and even the outside pool water was warm. Very cool to be able to swim outside from inside. The indoor hot tub was out of order, but the outdoor hot tub was hot and clean. The women’s steam room was out of order, but the sauna was a nice amenity. Hours weren’t listed, but it was closed when we went by again at 10pm. Loved the coffee shop in the lobby for a drink and biscotti, they even offer a few boozy hot drinks. Only open in the morning. The lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas and there were a lot of places to sit, gather, play some games, and even a library with a wide selection of books and cozy places to sit. We had drinks and appetizers at TJ Muskies. The specialty cocktails were a little too frilly/sweet for our taste, but they made a nice espresso martini with no cream for me. The charcuterie board had generous portions. Dinner reservations at Stillwaters. Both restaurants were filling up more than expected off season. Same specialty drink menu, ordered a martini and a manhattan from the liquor list. Food was good. Gluten free items were clearly marked and I was offered gluten free bread as a starter. Everything was priced as we would expect in the current economic climate, not any different from any other dining establishment we’ve been to. Walking around, we checked out the campground which had nice looking sites, most of which were lakeside, well-spaced, level and well maintained. The golf course looks challenging, good for pros or anyone looking for a challenge. The resort also had a family space with games across from the pool entrance, and a playground outside.

My wife and I stayed there on 11/23/2025. It was our first stay and we both loved EVERYTHING about the place. The king room was clean and comfortable. The bar was cozy and the bar staff was helpful and extremely friendly. They went above and beyond in accommodating my wife with her food allergies. The myriad Christmas decorations, which all went up during the night as we slept, were gorgeous. There was no slouching here. Various maintenance teams were out on the grounds early the following morning rounding up the fallen leaves and performing other exterior upkeep. I can't say enough about this resort. We'll be staying often in the future.

No value compared to the price you pay here. Power outlets next to bed turn off when you turn lamp off. Tried calling front desk from room phone multiple times. No one ever answered. Disney price but motel 6 service/experience.
