Description

Sterling is a Northern Virginia public course often described as convenient, approachable, and built around a shorter, more positional style of play. It typically rewards accuracy off the tee and strong wedge play, because many holes set up scoring chances if you keep the ball in play. The course can be deceptively challenging when you force driver into tight corridors or miss into trouble that limits recoveries. It’s a popular option for quick rounds and repeat play due to location and value. Overall, Sterling is a solid NoVA “everyday golf” course—practical, friendly, and best played with smart course management.

I have been going here for years. On the 18th hole recently, my brother was yelled at by two random golfers to get his (push) cart off the green, which one wheel was on the very edge of the green and was an honest mistake, and not a big one in my opinion. I asked the golfers if they worked there and in a hostile manner they said, “yea, got a question?!”. Then I asked the front desk person as he walked past us if those golfers indeed worked there and he became super hostile immediately. Was very weird and unexpected, to be honest. They also don’t let you use carts unless you’re a member and don’t have food/beverages most of the time. Course is decent, but done going there.

Sterling Golf Club is an amazing place to work and to play! An all 18 Hole Par 3 Course beautifully maintained by a caring staff, many volunteers. We appreciate all who have come to visit and play during the pandemic. It has been a trying time for all and we are proud that we have offered a great place for fresh air, exercise and great golf. Member based but open to the public our prices are extremely affordable, as is our cold beer and refreshments served also by Volunteers. We appreciate all who have continued to set a tee time and look forward to many more great golf outings! See you at Sterling Golf!

For a par 3, the maintenance of this course is in really good shape. I much prefer this place over the Virginia golf center par 3 in Clifton. The layout is very friendly for juniors and anyone who is ready to take the next step after being at the driving range. Once done here, I would recommend brambleton golf course as the next step up. Love taking my family here.

We came to this course to play a friendly 2v2 scramble. Entered into the clubhouse to pay and the lady working immediately starts lecturing us about taking care of the course and not damaging it. Strange. Proceeded to pay full price and started warming up on the practice green, only to be confronted by the lady from the clubhouse who came out aggressively, yelling, “I’m watching you.” When we asked what the issue was, she told us we couldn’t play because one of our players didn’t have his own golf bag. We explained calmly that we were playing a scramble, he’s a beginner, and we were planning to share clubs which is common and accepted at most courses, especially when it’s the last tee time of the day and the course is completely empty. She refused, claiming it would “slow down pace of play,” despite there being no one behind us. When we asked if there were rental bags, she snapped, “This isn’t a bowling alley,” and told us they don’t offer rentals. Okay so we offered to grab a spare backpack from the car, to satisfy her bag requirement. She initially agreed. We returned with a backpack full of clubs, but then she suddenly changed her mind saying, “That’s not a golf bag.” When I pointed out that their course rules don’t say anything about needing a specific kind of bag, and that there’s no formal definition of a "golf bag," she escalated again this time by threatening to call the police on us. Over a bag…. We were respectful, cooperative, and offered solutions every step of the way and still, we were kicked out. She claimed we’d be refunded, but no refund has been issued. After the incident, I looked into other reviews and realized this wasn’t a fluke multiple people have posted about racial discrimination, inconsistent treatment, and unprofessional staff. Our group included two people of color, and unfortunately, it’s hard to ignore the pattern. This course selectively enforces vague “rules” and uses them as a shield for hostile, exclusionary behavior. If you're not part of their “preferred crowd,” don’t expect a fair or respectful experience. And don’t expect your money back either. This was never about golf it was about control, bias, and a deeply unwelcoming culture. The staff at Sterling Park Golf Club should be ashamed. After getting kicked out we called Burke Lake and asked if there was any way for them to squeeze us in despite them being fully booked. They happily fit us in as they value their customers. If you are looking to play golf go to Burke Lake, Oakmont, Herndon, Reston or any other courses in the area over this one.

Great 18 hole par 3 course for beginners to intermediate. The course is well maintained and offers the right level of challenge to constantly improve your game. Super friendly/helpful management and staff. The 19th hole is a welcoming and casual atmosphere for guests and regulars alike.
